The White House said Trump was interested in asking Arab nations to help pay for the war with Iran.
At a press conference, when asked whether Arab countries would help pay for the war, Leavitt said she wouldn't comment on the Republican president's opinion, but it was an idea Trump had floated.

U.S. President Donald Trump is interested in urging Arab nations to pay for the costs of the war with Iran, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Monday, adding that talks with Tehran to end the conflict are progressing well.
At a press conference, when asked whether Arab countries would help pay for the war, Leavitt said she wouldn't comment on the Republican president's opinion, but it was an idea Trump had floated.
"I think that's something the President would be very interested in and would want to ask them to do. I know he has that idea and I think you'll hear more from him on this," said the White House press secretary.
Gulf states and Israel, U.S. allies in the Gulf, argue that Tehran has not been sufficiently weakened by the month-long U.S.-led bombing campaign.
Leaders of wealthy Gulf nations such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, along with key US allies Jordan and the UAE, met in person on Monday to discuss regional tensions and measures to avoid further escalation.

Following the summit in the Saudi Arabian coastal city of Jeddah, the three leaders communicated in private conversations that they did not want the military campaign to end until there were significant changes in the Iranian leadership or a dramatic shift in Iran's behavior.
It is perfectly understandable that the US President would seize this opportunity to demand that the aforementioned allies pay for the war, given Trump's inherent pragmatism.
Ms. Leavitt said that what Tehran says publicly differs from what they say privately to U.S. officials, and that Iran has secretly agreed to some points Washington raised implying that negotiations are underway, as Mr. Trump said.
She reiterated President Trump's threat of consequences if negotiations fail: "If they don't, the President has outlined the military consequences that the Iranian regime will face if they don't keep the promises that we're hearing privately behind the scenes," said Caroline Leavitt.
