Dong Thap province plans to plant over 200,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice.

(CT) - According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, it is expected that the 2026 summer-autumn rice crop will be planted on more than 200,000 hectares (estimated yield of 1.42 million tons); the autumn-winter rice crop will be planted on nearly 150,000 hectares (estimated yield of over 900,000 tons). Of this, 100,000 hectares will be cultivated under the Project "Sustainable Development of One Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Specialization Associated with Green Growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030," aiming to achieve the target of 134,200 hectares by 2027.

A field in Tan Nhuan Dong commune ( Dong Thap province) is being tilled dry in preparation for the summer-autumn crop, helping to eliminate pathogens and decompose straw quickly.

Specifically, for the summer-autumn rice crop, the Department of Agriculture recommends concentrated and simultaneous planting to avoid pest infestations in each area. The main planting period is from May 12th to May 25th; the final period is from June 10th to June 25th, this period is for areas without reliable water sources or areas where the autumn-winter rice crop is produced and has safe dikes.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, in the context of agricultural production increasingly linked to the market and the demands of integration, strengthening regional linkages, coordinating synchronously in managing planting seasons, pest control, quality control, and organizing production along the value chain is no longer an option, but an essential requirement. Dong Thap province is determined to continue reorganizing production towards improving quality, efficiency, and sustainability; expanding high-quality rice production models and reducing emissions; promoting production-consumption linkages; strengthening the management of planting area codes and packaging facilities; and simultaneously promoting the application of science and technology, mechanization, and digital transformation in production.
