Ahead of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship, Jordan caused a surprise by drawing 1-1 with Japan in a friendly match held on New Year's Day, which also served as a warm-up game for both teams.
Since then, Japan has displayed devastating form in all three matches of Group B. They won all three matches against Syria, UAE, and Qatar, scoring a total of 10 goals while conceding none.
Jordan's U23 team was a major disappointment, losing 0-2 to Vietnam in their opening match, but they subsequently regained their form with two consecutive victories against Saudi Arabia and Kyrgyzstan.
Bookmakers still rate Japan as the superior team in this match, offering odds of 1.5 goals for the entire match and 0.75 goals for the first half. The over/under for the entire match is 2.5 goals, and for the first half is 1 goal.
In terms of both form and physical condition, the Japanese U23 team is superior to Jordan. Coach Go Oiwa rested almost all of his key players in the match against Qatar, after securing first place in the group after only two matches.
In contrast, the Jordan U23 team had to fight until the very last minute against Kyrgyzstan for a place in the next round.
But once they find themselves at a disadvantage, the Jordan U23 team promises to play a tight counter-attacking game against Japan. At the youth football level, even big teams often struggle when facing well-organized defenses.
In Group B, Japan hasn't really faced any strong opponents yet, as neither UAE nor Qatar, nor Syria, have impressive young football generations. The real challenge will only come for them from the quarter-finals onwards.
Prediction: 0-0 draw after 90 minutes, Japan wins 1-0 in extra time.
