Having lost her husband prematurely and lacking land for farming, Ms. Phan Thi Che, residing in Thai Tien hamlet, Son Kien commune, struggled to raise her two young children by working as a hired laborer. Her precarious work and unstable income made life difficult for her family. Providing for daily meals was already a struggle, and her dilapidated house, which she hadn't been able to repair for years, was in need. In response to this situation, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son Kien commune, in coordination with the Buddhist Association of Son Kien commune, mobilized benefactors to support the construction of a new house for her, with a total cost of over 60 million VND. “Having a sturdy house is something I never dared to dream of before. I am very grateful to the local government, charitable organizations, and benefactors who have helped my children and me have a stable place to live, allowing us to work hard and improve our lives,” Ms. Che expressed.

Ms. Che's family is one of many disadvantaged families who have received support for housing construction through fundraising efforts by the PGHH (Hoa Hao Buddhist Association) Management Board of Son Kien commune, helping the poor to settle down and gradually stabilize their lives. Mr. Le Hoang Da, Head of the PGHH Management Board of Son Kien commune, said: “For many years, the management board has always adhered to the principle of religious practice, "For the Dharma, for the nation," actively working alongside the local government to carry out social welfare work. In particular, we prioritize mobilizing resources to build solidarity houses, giving gifts to poor households, and implementing practical community projects, contributing to caring for the material and spiritual lives of the people, especially those in difficult circumstances.”

From 2025 to the present, the Executive Board of the PGHH (Hoa Hao Buddhist Association) in Son Kien commune has mobilized resources to build 75 solidarity houses, construct 23 new iron bridges, build shelters for schools, provide free hospital transfers for over 600 patients, support funeral arrangements for the poor after their death, and donate over 2,500 gifts to the poor within and outside the commune… The total cost of these projects and activities is over 6.5 billion VND.

In line with the principles of the Hoa Hao Buddhist sect, for many years the Hoa Hao Buddhist Management Board of My Thuan commune has joined hands with the local government to care for the lives of the people. From 2025 to the present, the management board has built 26 solidarity houses, supported poor patients with medical treatment, constructed 8 iron bridges, built 2 concrete bridges, built rural roads, and donated thousands of gifts… totaling more than 5.1 billion VND. Mr. Le Van Trung - Head of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Management Board of My Thuan commune said: “We consider doing charity work and social welfare not only a responsibility but also a duty of Hoa Hao Buddhist followers. In the future, the management board will continue to mobilize benefactors, promote the spirit of solidarity, and work together with the local government to better care for the poor, contributing to building a more developed homeland.”

Besides fundraising, the PGHH Management Boards of Son Kien and My Thuan communes also established charitable house and bridge construction teams with several dozen members. These teams visited the sites to survey, plan, and organize construction, contributing their labor and effort to help families complete their houses or contribute days of labor to build public works. Thanks to this spirit of solidarity and sharing, many houses and bridges were completed in a short time, ensuring quality.

The activities of the PGHH Management Board in Son Kien and My Thuan communes not only bring material value but also deeply spread the spirit of compassion in the community. The joint efforts of religious organizations, the government, and philanthropists help many disadvantaged people gain more support and confidence to rise up in life.
