According to Colonel Pham Van Thang, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Military Command and Commander of the Provincial Border Guard Command, the unit in charge, in coordination with departments, agencies, and functional forces, advises the Border Guard Command Headquarters and the Provincial Border Affairs Steering Committee on handling incidents and events related to the border. At the same time, it conducts unilateral and bilateral surveys with the Cambodian border management and protection forces regarding damaged, subsided, or potentially landslide-prone border markers and posts to promptly propose maintenance, repair, and remediation plans.
The Provincial Border Guard Command also directed units to strengthen patrols, control, management, and protection of land borders and sea areas and islands under their responsibility. The fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing was implemented vigorously; strict control was maintained over vessels entering and leaving ports, border control stations, river mouths, and estuaries. Authorities promptly detected and prevented the removal or disabling of vessel tracking devices (VMS) on fishing vessels and strictly dealt with violations according to the law.
The work of reconnaissance, drug prevention, and crime control has been thoroughly and seriously implemented. In 2025, border guard forces detected and arrested 21 cases involving 29 individuals related to drugs, seizing approximately 2.8 kg of various types of drugs; they also detected 67 cases of smuggling and commercial fraud involving 65 individuals, with seized goods worth approximately 7.2 billion VND. In addition, functional forces also handled 2 cases involving 5 individuals related to the illegal buying, selling, transporting, storing, and using of weapons and explosives. Notably, the AG1225p case resulted in the seizure of 49.6 kg of fireworks.
In the field of immigration and emigration, authorities detected and handled 368 cases involving 2,114 individuals illegally entering or exiting the country; prosecuted 2 cases involving 4 individuals; and imposed administrative penalties in 320 cases involving 1,220 individuals, totaling over 6 billion VND. Simultaneously, they received 26 cases involving 856 Vietnamese citizens repatriated by Cambodia. Enforcement against IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing violations was also strengthened, resulting in penalties imposed on 40 cases, 44 fishing vessels, and 53 individuals, totaling over 16.7 billion VND.
Along with the task of managing and protecting the border, the Provincial Border Guard also promotes border diplomacy activities, strengthening friendly relations with the Cambodian border management and protection forces. Recently, the unit has received 46 delegations with 347 officials from Cambodia visiting and offering congratulations during holidays and festivals; and has advised on the signing of fraternal agreements between 16 pairs of border posts and stations with Cambodia and 16 border communities on both sides.
Border guards also coordinated with relevant agencies to survey and propose upgrading the main Khánh Bình border gate to an international border gate; opening the Khánh An and Vĩnh Gia sub-border gates; and defining the scope of the Hà Tiên international border gate area. Bilateral patrols, border control, border gate control, and prevention of illegal entry and exit were maintained regularly, contributing to maintaining stability in the border area.
Ms. Luu Thi My Linh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Chuc commune, said: "In recent times, the border guard forces have closely coordinated with the local government in maintaining security and order, managing the border, and caring for the lives of the people in the border area. Social welfare programs, support for people's economic development, and helping disadvantaged students attend school have created a bond and trust between the people and the border guard forces, contributing to building an increasingly solid all-people border defense posture."
Many social welfare programs and models have been effectively implemented, such as the "Warm Hearts of Border Guards in Villages" program, the "National Border Guard Day" program, accompanying women in border areas, and the "Rice Jar of Compassion" program, with a total expenditure of approximately 6.8 billion VND. Models supporting disadvantaged students continue to be maintained, contributing to empowering them to attend school. Localities on both sides of the border maintain twinning activities between 10 pairs of hamlets and villages and 6 pairs of communes and wards in Vietnam and hamlets and villages in Cambodia, contributing to strengthening solidarity and building a peaceful, friendly, and prosperous border.
