Việt NamViệt Nam22/06/2024

This year, the Green Summer Campaign in Binh Duong is even more special with the participation of Vietnamese students studying in Singapore with the program "Building Dreams - Cultivating Aspirations".

For the sake of our beloved younger generation.

In accordance with the assignment from the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Student Union regarding coordination and support for activities between the Vietnam Student Unions in provinces and cities and the Vietnam Student Unions abroad; and in response to the theme "Year of Youth Volunteers" launched by the Central Youth Union, this summer the Secretariat of the Vietnam Student Union of Binh Duong province collaborated with the Secretariat of the Vietnam Student Union in Singapore to organize the Green Summer volunteer program with the theme "Building Dreams - Cultivating Aspirations".

Hội SV Việt Nam tỉnh và Hội SV Việt Nam tại Singapore đã tổ chức nhiều hoạt động tình nguyện ý nghĩa tại trường Tiểu học Hòa Lộc, xã Minh Hòa, huyện Dầu Tiếng.
The Vietnam Student Association of the province and the Vietnam Student Association in Singapore organized many meaningful volunteer activities at Hoa Loc Primary School, Minh Hoa commune, Dau Tieng district.

Beginning their journey, nearly 40 students from the two units visited Hoa Loc Primary School in Minh Hoa commune, Dau Tieng district, one of the remote schools in the province. This school is home to many students of the Cham ethnic group or Vietnamese-Cambodians without identification documents, living precariously on floating villages on Dau Tieng Lake. To promote the spirit of "For our beloved younger generation" of the student associations at all levels and each member, and with the support of sponsors, the student associations of the two units donated 100 gift packages including school bags, rice, milk, etc., to 100 disadvantaged students; provided 20 study corners for 20 students with particularly difficult circumstances; and donated a children's bookshelf to Hoa Loc Primary School. Besides handing over completed projects and gifts, the volunteers of the Green Summer Campaign also organized nutritious lunches for the children, held fun and entertaining activities for them, and planted trees for the school.

Nguyen Song Thao Huong, a student studying in Singapore, shared: “Being able to participate in and experience the ‘For Our Beloved Younger Siblings’ activities, I was deeply moved and wanted to contribute to building and developing the community; caring for children who are still facing many difficulties to help bring them motivation to study and joy during the summer days…”.

Working together to build a community.

After concluding their volunteer program at Hoa Loc Primary School, the Green Summer Campaign participants visited the Provincial Administrative Center and toured the Intelligent Operations Center (IOC); they also met with provincial leaders. There, they received an overview of Binh Duong province and its policies to attract high-quality human resources; they also had the opportunity to express and share their thoughts about Binh Duong and the Green Summer Campaign in Binh Duong with the provincial leaders.

Vu Duc Thanh, a student studying in Singapore, shared: “This is my first time participating in the Green Summer Campaign in Binh Duong. The program left a very good impression on me as I participated in meaningful activities; met dynamic, intelligent, and professional students from Binh Duong; and had the opportunity to learn from each other. I hope that in the future, the two organizations will continue to organize more meaningful activities like this.”

Within the framework of the Green Summer Campaign, the Vietnamese Student Association in Singapore and clubs, teams, and groups at universities and colleges in the province also organized exchange activities and shared work experiences. Simultaneously, these units coordinated with the Engineering Officer School to organize the "Exchange Program for Vietnamese and international officers, soldiers, and students of the Engineering Officer School." Participating in the program, students engaged in cultural performances, participated in games, and enjoyed a campfire with students from Laos and Cambodia.

Mr. Le Tuan Anh, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Student Association of Binh Duong Province, said: “The Vietnam Student Association in Singapore and the Binh Duong Provincial Student Association are two sister organizations, coordinating activities. In the past, the two organizations have organized several online activities. And the 'Green Summer' program, 'Building Dreams - Cultivating Aspirations,' is the first program where the two organizations officially met and carried out meaningful and practical projects and tasks, contributing to spreading the spirit of volunteerism and working together to build the community. I hope that in the future, the two organizations will continue to connect the energy of young people to jointly participate in projects and tasks to support students in disadvantaged areas. Initially, the two organizations will sign a memorandum of understanding to have academic, volunteer, and exchange activities with each other each year. At the same time, we also hope to spread this model to students studying in other countries…”

The Vietnamese Student Association in Singapore is the only student organization representing the Vietnamese student community in Singapore, established with the support of the Liaison Committee of Vietnamese People in Singapore. In 2019, the association was officially recognized by the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Student Association through its first Congress. Over the past five years, the association has attracted more than 9,000 students living and studying in Singapore to participate in its activities.
