Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City is the world's fourth busiest domestic flight route, offering over 10 million seats in 2023.

This information was recently released by OAG, a leading global organization specializing in tracking and compiling statistics on travel and aviation. The organization compiles statistics on the world's busiest air routes based on available seat capacity.

According to these statistics, the Hanoi -Ho Chi Minh City route in Vietnam ranks 4th with approximately 10.9 million seats. Compared to last year, this route dropped one rank but still increased by 3%, and compared to pre-pandemic levels, it increased by 6%.

Since 2017, Vietnam has consistently been among the top 10 busiest domestic air markets in the world, particularly for the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route.

Currently, five domestic airlines, including Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines, operate this route with approximately 60 round-trip flights per day.

Of these, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet operate the most flights, with over 20 round-trip flights each on weekdays.

According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority, in 2023, the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route transported over 9 million passengers, accounting for 22% of domestic passengers. On average, for every 5 domestic passengers, one passenger flew on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route or vice versa.

Asian skies have become the busiest in the world, with 9 out of the 10 most busy domestic routes on the list.

Leading the way is the Jeju to Gimpo (Seoul) route with 13.7 million seats offered. Second is the Fukuoka to Haneda (Tokyo) route with 11.2 million seats last year. This year, the Sapporo to Haneda (Tokyo) route has overtaken Vietnam for third place with 11.9 million seats offered.

The only route outside of Asia in the top 10 busiest domestic routes in the world is Melbourne-Sydney with 9.3 million seats, ranking 5th.
