Eriksen remains unemployed after leaving Man Utd.

Christian Eriksen is facing heavy criticism from his own country. Former Denmark international and ex-Real Madrid star Thomas Gravesen has openly questioned the 33-year-old midfielder's football ambitions after leaving Manchester United.

Eriksen became a free agent after his contract at Old Trafford expired last summer. Although he has been able to negotiate with any team since January, he has yet to find a new destination. In the meantime, the former Tottenham star has maintained his fitness by training with Malmo - a top Swedish club.

This left Gravesen very surprised. According to him, Malmo was not a reasonable choice because they had finalized the Europa League list, and also had no possibility of signing Eriksen on a long-term contract. "This was more like a meeting of friends than an attempt to show ambition to play football," Gravesen commented.

Eriksen scored in June friendlies against Northern Ireland and Lithuania, but was left out of Denmark's squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Scotland and Greece. He also turned down an offer from Wrexham, while Burnley and several other European clubs had expressed interest.

Although the transfer window has closed, Eriksen is still eligible to sign as a free agent. However, Gravesen believes that prolonging this situation only raises doubts about his will to play: “Eriksen could have joined a team months ago. The fact that he has not decided shows that his ambition is at a worrying level.”
