On May 20, PVN released information about mobilizing natural gas for electricity production. This information comes after the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) proposed, in the immediate future, PVN considers stopping the entire Ca Mau and Phu My Fertilizer plants, giving up gas for power production from now until the end of May. then give priority to gas until the end of June.
According to EVN, the amount of gas supplied for power production is only about 13,5-14 million m3/day on average, while the maximum operating demand of gas turbine plants in the Southeast region is over 21 million m3. /day.
The amount of gas in the Southwest region for power production is only about 4 million m3 per day on average, while the demand for maximum operation of Ca Mau gas turbine plants is about 6 million m3 per day.
However, PVN said that: Because the demand for mobilizing natural gas for electricity production in the first quarter of 2023 was very low, by the end of April 4, the amount of gas mobilized for power plants was only 2023% compared to the previous quarter. plan assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
In addition to maximizing the amount of natural gas exploited in the country, PVN has agreed with Petronas to buy all the gas extracted from the PM3-CAA field cluster with Malaysia to increase the amount of gas supplied for domestic electricity production.
It is expected that in 2023, PVN will provide about 5,87 billion m3 of natural gas for power production (including 4,55 billion m3 in the Southeast region and 1,32 billion m3 in the Southwest region), exceeding 104,8% compared to the plan of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
“It is worth mentioning that up to now, the mobilized capacity of the highest gas power plants only accounts for about 12% of the total mobilized capacity of power sources. Therefore, to ensure the completion of the electricity supply plan approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, it is necessary to mobilize the participation of many other power generation sources besides gas power (coal power, hydroelectricity, renewable energy, etc.). ... )", PVN commented.
PVN also raised its opinion on the proposal to stop the entire Ca Mau and Phu My Fertilizer plants to make room for gas for power production from now until the end of May, then give priority to gas until the end of June.
This group believes that: The owners of Phu My and Ca Mau Fertilizer plants are joint stock companies, so the activities affect production and business efficiency, long-term cases of stopping/reducing gas supply. according to the plan, must be approved by the general meeting of shareholders of these companies before implementation.
The unplanned stop/reduce of gas supply to the Phu My and Ca Mau Fertilizer plants will greatly affect production and business activities, generate many consequences for related parties and will depend on the Approval, goodwill, shared cooperation of shareholders of nitrogenous plants.
"In addition, stopping/reducing natural gas of nitrogenous plants does not help much (nearly 1%) for the operation of the national power system," said PVN.
