EVNNPC: Innovation and Digital Technology

The Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) is accelerating the application of digital technology and innovation, which it has identified as a key driving force in the current period.

Adhering closely to Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo and the action programs of EVN and EVNNPC, the Northern Power Corporation is promoting the application of digital technology, innovation, and modernization of the power grid, gradually building a modern digital power enterprise model, using data and technology as the foundation to improve production and business efficiency, customer service quality, and management capacity.

Innovation stemming from practical production and business experience.

In implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo, Action Program No. 40-CTr/DU of the EVN Party Committee, and Action Program No. 171-CTr/DU of the EVNNPC Party Committee, the Corporation has closely linked scientific research activities with practical production and business, using the efficiency of power system operation and customer satisfaction as benchmarks for initiatives, research projects, and new technological solutions.

During the period 2021-2025, EVNNPC recognized 378 initiatives at the Corporation level, along with 27 highly applicable scientific research projects. In 2025 alone, 90 initiatives were recognized at the highest level in the past five years, demonstrating the strong spirit of innovation spreading throughout the Corporation.

To further foster a spirit of innovation among its staff, EVNNPC is implementing the "10,000 Initiatives Program for the period 2025-2028," encouraging employees to propose solutions for technical improvements, the application of new technologies, and the enhancement of production and business efficiency. The movement has attracted active participation from units and employees throughout the system, contributing to the spread of a culture of innovation and making initiatives one of the key drivers of the digital transformation and modernization of the Corporation's production and business activities.

Alongside its scientific research activities, EVNNPC is also accelerating the modernization of its power grid on a large scale. To date, 100% of the 110kV substations under the Corporation have switched to unmanned operation; 381 110kV substations are connected to the SCADA system for real-time remote monitoring and control. The medium-voltage grid automation system DMS/DAS has been deployed synchronously with a remote control device connection rate of over 97%; and 8 modern digital substations have been put into operation, creating a solid foundation for the roadmap to build a smart grid.

In particular, EVNNPC is proactively researching and applying new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, online equipment status monitoring, image analysis, and load forecasting. These technologies not only contribute to improving labor productivity and business efficiency but also gradually form a modern management model based on digital data.

The results achieved show that science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation are becoming important drivers for boosting operational efficiency and enhancing the competitiveness of EVNNPC.

Sharing his vision for future development, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thien, General Director of EVNNPC, emphasized: “Innovation and digital transformation must become the driving force for development in all of EVNNPC's activities. Every initiative and every successful technological application contributes to improving management efficiency, service quality, and the competitiveness of the Corporation.”

Currently, the Corporation is simultaneously implementing several key technology projects such as a GIS-based digital map-based power grid management system, a centralized data warehouse, and data analysis tools to support technical management, investment and construction, materials management, human resources, and customer service. When interconnected, these systems will form an interconnected data ecosystem, supporting leaders at all levels in making quick and accurate operational decisions based on real-time data.

Furthermore, EVNNPC is aggressively digitizing its entire business processes to optimize data flow, minimize manual operations, and improve management efficiency. Artificial intelligence continues to be identified as one of the key technologies, being researched and applied in occupational safety monitoring, load forecasting, smart customer care, and the development of virtual assistants to support employees in performing their tasks.

According to the Science, Technology and Innovation Action Plan for the period 2026-2030, EVNNPC aims to make technology a key driving force in all production and business activities. The Corporation aims to increase the rate of medium-voltage switchgear operating automatically via DMS/DAS to 70-80%; strengthen the application of AI in equipment monitoring, fault prediction and operation optimization; and develop large data centers to serve the management of power grid assets throughout their lifecycle and implement maintenance according to real-world conditions.

EVNNPC will also promote research and application of green technologies, environmentally friendly equipment, advanced energy storage solutions, and modern management models to improve resource efficiency and meet the requirements of energy transition and sustainable development.

From initiatives stemming from practical experience to modern technology systems operating on a digital data platform, EVNNPC is creating powerful transformations in power grid management and operation.

With its increasingly modern technological platform and unwavering commitment to innovation, EVNNPC is gradually realizing its goal of building a digital, intelligently operated power enterprise, ensuring safe and stable electricity supply for over 11 million customers in 17 provinces and cities in Northern Vietnam.
