Barca won the Copa del Rey for the 32nd time.

On the morning of April 27, Espanyol unexpectedly posted on their fanpage a congratulatory message for Barcelona winning the Copa del Rey championship. In a short but meaningful message, the Catalan club wrote: "Congratulations to FC Barcelona on winning the Copa del Rey title."

This caused a wave of angry reactions from Espanyol fans, who felt that sending congratulations to their arch-rivals on such an occasion was unacceptable.

“Delete” was a repeated request in fan responses and quotes, arguing that Espanyol should not have issued a message like this, especially when it came in the context of the club facing great tension from fans.

While many Espanyol fans have criticised the move, some have suggested that the message may have come from the club's CEO, Mao Ye Wu, who is known to be a Barcelona fan. This has added to the discontent, with many suggesting that the Espanyol board are out of touch with the feelings of the club's fans.

Former Espanyol director Robert Hernando was one of the prominent figures to express his displeasure with the club's actions. Mr Hernando did not hesitate to express his disappointment, even saying "I am ashamed of this Espanyol team."

He went on to criticise Barcelona, claiming that the city rivals had been "corrupt and thieving" throughout his career, and could not understand why Espanyol would congratulate a rival who "spent their lives tormenting us".

This is not the first time Espanyol have found themselves in a tense situation with their fans. Over the years, the club has faced criticism over its management and board decisions.
