The previous edition of the FIFA Club World Cup was held once a year and featured only seven teams from six FIFA member associations. Seven matches were played over 11 days at one main venue. This number will increase to 32 teams from 2025 and the tournament will be held every four years.
Where and when will the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup take place?
This season, 32 teams will come to the US to compete for the title of the best club in the world in the last 4 seasons (2020-2024), with 63 matches taking place in 29 days (from June 14 to July 13).

The opening match will be Al Ahly vs Inter Miami, taking place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on June 14. The final will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (USA) on July 13.
Format of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is similar to the old format of the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Champions League. With 32 clubs divided into 8 groups of 4 teams each, they will compete in a round-robin to reach the next round (knockout round).
The group winners and runners-up will then proceed to the knockout stages (round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final). If these matches are level after 90 minutes, the two teams will go into extra time and a penalty shootout.
Conditions to participate in FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
There are two ways for teams to participate in the biggest club tournament on the planet. The first condition is to win a continental title (such as UEFA Champions League, Conmebol Libertadores...) in the last 4 seasons.
If a club wins the title more than once during this period (typically Real Madrid), the qualification spot is transferred to a second qualified team.

The second condition to participate is to have a high ranking in continental tournament achievements for 4 years. Each federation is given a certain number of slots based on its strength.
Accordingly, UEFA (Europe) has 12 places, Commebol (South America) has 6 places, 4 places for each region Concacaf (North Central America), Asia and Africa, plus one place for Oceania. The remaining place is reserved for a representative of the host country and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.
Why can't Barcelona and Liverpool participate?
Each country is limited to a maximum of two teams participating in this year's tournament. Chelsea and Manchester City are the two representatives of England in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as the Champions League winners of the 2020-21 and 2022-23 seasons respectively.
In terms of qualifying factors, Liverpool are only ranked 8th, so the reigning Premier League champions will be absent from this year's tournament.
For Barcelona, the team that is close to winning the La Liga title this year, their performance in the Champions League is also worse than Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, so coach Hansi Flick's team cannot participate in this tournament.
Brazil is a special case as it has 4 teams qualified to participate. The reason is that in the period from 2020-2024, they have 4 different representatives winning the Conmebol Libertadores championship in 4 different seasons.

According to The Sun, FIFA has confirmed that the total prize money for the 2025 Club World Cup with 32 participating teams taking place in the US this summer is up to 1 billion USD (equivalent to nearly 26,000 billion VND).

The winning team will receive prize money and a 24-carat gold-plated trophy with the winning club's name laser-engraved on both sides. The centre displays a series of icons that capture football's heritage, including stadium emblems, equipment and a map of the world.
The inscriptions are in 13 different languages, along with a world map, the names of all 211 FIFA member associations and 6 confederations, representing the geographical and cultural diversity of different footballing cultures around the planet.
The message "To those who own this trophy, history belongs to you! You are witnesses to a moment that represents the pinnacle of club football, an honor given to the few but celebrated by many" was also engraved on the trophy by the organizers.
