VAR is being widely applied in more matches within the 2023-2024 V-League season, instead of being purely a trial in a few unimportant matches in the latter half of the previous season.

In Round 3 of the V-League 2023-2024, the International Football Federation (FIFA) approved the use of VAR in three matches. These are the matches between Nam Dinh FC and Ho Chi Minh City FC (6 PM on November 3rd), Hanoi Police FC and Hanoi FC (7:15 PM on November 3rd), and Viettel FC and Ha Tinh FC (7:15 PM on November 4th).

In particular, the match between Viettel Club and Ha Tinh Club last season at Hang Day Stadium was one of the first matches to feature VAR.

VAR was used in 3 matches this round, 2 of which took place at Hang Day Stadium.

The match between Hanoi Police FC and Hanoi FC is the highlight of this round, pitting the reigning V-League champions against the reigning runners-up. With VAR, the pressure on the referees in this crucial match will be somewhat eased.

The VAR referees and VAR assistants in round 3 included Mai Xuân Hùng, Ngô Duy Lân, Trương Hồng Vũ, and Trần Ngọc Nhớ.

According to a VPF official, the VPF Company and the VFF Referee Committee understand the importance of achieving the goal of implementing VAR in V-League matches as soon as possible. Continuing to train qualified personnel to meet FIFA requirements for operating VAR is part of the plan for the near future.

As soon as the 2023-2024 national professional football leagues take a break during FIFA Days in November, the second VAR referee training course will be held. Subsequent training courses will be held intermittently between breaks in the national championship and are expected to be completed before the two FIFA-sponsored VAR vehicles arrive in Vietnam.

FIFA has set a three-year probationary period and will monitor the referees' performance throughout this time. This timeframe is not arbitrary; it's a calculated period by FIFA to allow referees to hone their skills.
