According to the license,FPT Retail - a subsidiary of FPT - is permitted to provide these services through the nationwide terrestrial mobile telecommunications network, including telecommunications services on the IMT-2000 and IMT-Advanced standard terrestrial mobile telecommunications networks, provided to telecommunications subscribers who have signed telecommunications service contracts with the enterprise.
FPT Retail was granted a license to provide mobile telecommunications services nationwide from May 30th.
In addition, this enterprise is also permitted to provide telecommunications services on the standard GSM telecommunications network provided to telecommunications subscribers when implementing the CS Fallback feature or in cases where the standard IMT-2000 and IMT-Advanced terrestrial mobile telecommunications networks are unavailable.
This includes focusing on developing subscribers who use 3G/4G or higher technologies.
FPT Retail will provide a virtual mobile network and utilize the infrastructure of other mobile network operators such as Viettel, VNPT, MobiFone , etc.
FPT Retail's advantage in entering the mobile telecommunications market is that the company owns a nationwide retail network with over 800 FPT Shop stores and nearly 1,300 Long Chau pharmacies.
Each year, FPT Retail sells over 1.5 million smartphones and various IoT devices and acts as a mobile telecommunications service provider to hundreds of thousands of customers. In addition, FPT Retail benefits from leveraging FPT's diverse digital service ecosystem to develop its business.
Typically, it takes 12-15 months to deploy the technical system for a new virtual mobile network. With its technological advantages and support from the corporation, FPT Retail expects to shorten this time and provide services to customers sooner.
According to data from the Telecommunications Department (Ministry of Information and Communications), the number of mobile phone subscribers in Vietnam is nearly 130 million. Of these, the number of mobile phone subscribers of businesses providing virtual mobile services is 2.65 million, accounting for 2.1% of the total number of subscribers in the market.
Currently, the Ministry of Information and Communications has licensed five businesses to provide virtual mobile network services in Vietnam: Indochina Telecom, Mobicast, ASIM, Digilife, and FPT Retail.
