On August 15, head coach of the Vietnam futsal team, Diego Giustozzi, announced the list of 20 Vietnamese futsal players preparing for the 2026 Asian futsal qualifiers. This force brings together a balance between experience and youth.
The unfortunate thing in this qualifying round is the absence of the number 1 goalkeeper of the Vietnamese futsal team, Ho Van Y. Previously, he also missed participating in the 2025 National Futsal Cup.
The goalkeeper of the Vietnamese futsal team is absent due to a ligament injury and has not yet recovered from surgery earlier this month. It is expected that goalkeeper Ho Van Y will have to rest for at least 6 months.
The Vietnamese team is expected to gather from August 18 at Thai Son Nam Gymnasium (Binh Dong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City). The core force includes veterans Pham Van Tu, Pham Duc Hoa, Nguyen Manh Dung, Chau Doan Phat, Tu Minh Quang, Nguyen Minh Tri and Nguyen Thinh Phat - Top scorer of the 2025 HDBank National Futsal Championship. Chau Doan Phat won the title of Best Player, while Pham Van Tu was honored as Best Goalkeeper in both the National Championship and the 2025 National Cup.
The two new players who are called up to the national team for the first time are goalkeeper Chau Thach Khanh Cuong (Thai Son Nam) and Nguyen Quoc Giau (Tre TP HCM). Many young faces continue to be given opportunities such as Tran Quang Nguyen, Trinh Cong Dai, Vu Ngoc Anh and Nguyen Da Hai - the best player of the 2025 National Cup.
After the domestic training period, the team will go to Kuwait for training from September 9 to 14. The team will have 2 friendly matches with Kuwait before going to China to participate in the qualifying round.
In the Asian qualifiers, Vietnam is in Group E with Lebanon, China and Hong Kong (China), meeting these opponents on September 20, 22 and 24 respectively.
The qualifying round has 31 participating teams and 15 slots, with host Indonesia participating in the final round in January 2026.
In the most recent gathering, coach Giustozzi and his team defeated Saudi Arabia (2-1, 3-2) and defeated and drew with the world's top 7 team, Kazakhstan (4-1, 2-2), creating positive psychological momentum for the goal of winning a ticket to the continent.
