Ready to welcome cooperation initiatives from Vietnam
At the Office of the Governor of Tanga, in a friendly, constructive and positive atmosphere, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation opportunities in an effort to make practical contributions to the bilateral relationship on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1965-2025).
At the reception, Governor Batilda Burian highly appreciated the traditional relationship between the two countries from the period of the two countries' national liberation struggle until now, affirming that Tanga wishes and is ready to welcome cooperation initiatives from Vietnam.
The Governor said that Tanga is one of the five largest provinces of Tanzania with an area of over 26,000 square kilometers, including 8 districts with diverse strengths and characteristics, rich natural resources, cool climate, unique agricultural and fishery production and is growing strongly in the fields of industry, startups and digital technology .
Tanga is considered the economic hub of East Africa with a major seaport and Tanzania's oldest railway.

Economically, agriculture remains the mainstay, employing about 70% of the workforce. She said the Tanzanian President is particularly interested in developing the fisheries sector, providing support for fishing vessels, seaweed development and crab farming - areas in which the province wants to learn more from Vietnam. In addition, livestock and inland aquaculture are also being promoted.
Tanga is also the only province in Tanzania with three large cement factories, with clinker mainly imported from Vietnam - a clear demonstration of the economic ties between the two countries. The province also possesses many valuable resources such as gold, graphite, bauxite, heavy mineral sand, ruby, and emerald.
In addition, the Governor also shared the challenges the province is facing, such as the fact that some traditional textile factories have not yet attracted strategic investors. Vietnam's strengths in the textile industry can open up opportunities for the development of the Tanga textile industry.
In terms of technology, Tanga is one of the few provinces with a cross-border fiber optic connection with Kenya, and is operating an ICT startup center for young people, promoting innovation. However, the locality currently has no regional television station and is eager to learn from Vietnam’s model in the field of local media and digital transformation.
Governor Batilda Burian highly appreciated Vietnam’s role in South-South cooperation and affirmed that the two sides are maintaining stable bilateral relations in many areas such as trade, investment, communications, tourism and digital transformation. She expressed her desire to connect localities between the two countries so that cooperation becomes more substantive and effective.
Connect from similar conditions
Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen thanked Tanga province for the warm welcome, affirming that 2025 is an important milestone to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and acknowledge many new steps in the relationship between the two countries, especially the exchange of high-level delegations with the political consultation mechanism established between the two foreign ministries.
In addition, cooperation mechanisms are being promoted to expand bilateral cooperation in the coming time, including the 2nd meeting of the Vietnam-Tanzania Joint Committee on Agricultural Cooperation which will soon be held, scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year in Tanzania. This is a cooperation mechanism signed between the two governments since 2004.
Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen positively assessed the potential and opportunities for cooperation with Tanga province, and said that Tanga and many localities in Vietnam, especially Lam Dong province, have many similarities in climate, ecological conditions and orientation for sustainable agricultural development. With strengths in forests, seas, tourism and minerals, Lam Dong is also considered the center of high-tech agriculture in Vietnam. This is a favorable basis for starting specific cooperation programs. The Ambassador believes that with the active and direct participation of localities, Vietnam-Tanzania cooperation will go into depth, be practical and sustainable.
Regarding trade and technology cooperation, the Ambassador shared Vietnam’s strengths and experience in producing and exporting rice, robusta coffee, etc. and expressed his impression of the richness and diversity of Tanzania’s beans, as well as the quality of arabica coffee in the region. This could be a new direction in trade cooperation, agricultural processing and agricultural export.
The Ambassador also shared about the strong reforms in Vietnam, while emphasizing the role of digital transformation and e-government, saying that Vietnam is ready to share its experience in this field.
Halotel - Viettel's branch in Tanzania - is a concrete example of the effective technology cooperation model between the two countries. Halotel has affirmed its position and accompanied the Tanzanian people after 10 years of doing business in Tanzania with a network covering 88% of the population, especially in remote areas and is currently preparing to deploy 5G frequency in Tanzania. The company always accompanies the government and local authorities at all levels of Tanzania in community development projects, contributing to further tightening the Vietnam-Tanzania cooperation relationship.

Also during the working trip, Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen had a working session with the District Chief of Tanga District, Mr. Dadi Kolimba; visited the gypsum factory, visited the production facility for processing finished products from sisal - a typical local industry, accounting for 70% of the country's sisal export volume, contributing positively to the livelihood creation and sustainable development of the province.
