Trouble arises after injection of 'fat-dissolving solution'.

Having gained nearly 20kg after giving birth, a 35-year-old woman from Tuyen Quang spent hundreds of millions of VND on weight loss treatments but without achieving the desired results. Recently, she heard from a friend about a non-invasive weight loss method that only requires one injection, claiming the fat will dissolve on its own and her stomach will become slimmer.

A week after receiving an injection of an unknown solution in her lower abdomen at a spa, she developed pain, swelling, and numerous red spots. She went to a nearby clinic to have the inflamed spots lanced and drained, but the pus pockets became denser, more swollen, and painful, forcing her to go to the hospital.

According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Nghia, Head of the Department of Aesthetic Surgery at Hoai Nhai General Hospital, the patient developed an abdominal abscess after receiving fat-dissolving injections. The resulting complications included an uneven and hardened abdomen in the lower abdominal area. The surgical team treated the abscess and combined it with liposuction and abdominoplasty, removing all the skin and fat from the lower abdomen.

With the increasing demand for beauty and weight loss among women, many spas advertise rapid beauty results, even promoting fat-dissolving injections that claim the fat will be excreted through urine. They claim a layer of fat will appear floating on the surface of the urine. However, the presence of fat in the urine indicates severe kidney failure. "Therefore, advertisements for fat-dissolving injections for weight loss are false and lack scientific knowledge," Dr. Nghia affirmed.

Doctors advise women to carefully research the types of injections they receive. It is especially important to note that injections must be administered by qualified doctors at licensed medical facilities. "If complications occur, go immediately to a medical facility for examination and treatment to avoid affecting your health and leaving lasting consequences," Dr. Nghia said.
