The boat capsized, and dozens of tons of rice sank to the bottom of the canal.
At approximately 2:30 PM on August 15th, a boat carrying over 40 tons of rice, traveling on the Ca Dua canal towards the Vam Co Tay River from the People's Committee of Binh Hoa commune, Tay Ninh province, to Hung Thanh commune, Dong Thap province, encountered a problem, causing all the rice on board to sink to the bottom of the canal. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any casualties.
Mr. Tran Quoc Ha, the boat operator (residing in Hung Thanh commune, Dong Thap province), stated: “I was hired to transport the rice for someone else. While navigating, the boat snagged on a sharp stake in the canal, puncturing the bottom and causing water to flood in, leading to the boat capsizing. Although I noticed it in time, I couldn't do anything about it. In just about 5 minutes, all the rice had sunk.”
Authorities assisted in salvaging the rice.
Immediately after receiving information about the boat carrying rice sinking, the authorities of Binh Hoa commune quickly arrived at the scene to assist in handling the incident. Currently, the authorities are working to bring the rice ashore and salvage the sunken boat.
Initial estimates put the damage at approximately 268 million VND .
