Special photo series completed on the occasion of National Day September 2nd

Before the National Day holiday on September 2, Ms. Vo Bien Thuy, her husband and 2 children (11 years old and 5 years old) went to Hoan Kiem Lake to take a souvenir photo together. Having lived and worked in the capital for many years, Ms. Thuy's family has visited the place considered the heart of the capital many times.

But this time is even more special because all 4 people wore red flag shirts with yellow stars to take a photo checking in the 63rd province, completing a photo series wearing national flag shirts traveling across Vietnam.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Thuy said that to complete this photo series, in 2023 and 2024, her family made 18 trips, the shortest trip was a day trip, the longest trip was 25 days.

The most "leisurely" photo in the collection of photos of red flag shirts with yellow stars in 63 provinces and cities of Ms. Thuy's family.

The idea of wearing a red flag with a yellow star across the map of Vietnam originated from the time Thuy's family went to Mui Dien ( Phu Yen ) - the place to welcome the first sunrise on mainland Vietnam in 2020.

To reach this location, Ms. Thuy and her husband and two children had to hike nearly 1km. When they reached Mui Dien, looking at the red flag with a yellow star standing out against the sky, the sea, the vast, majestic, blue space… Ms. Thuy thought to herself, “There is probably no place in the world as beautiful as Vietnam.”

“The moment I stood there, wearing the red flag with yellow star shirt, I immediately thought of a plan: Check-in with the red flag with yellow star all over the map of Vietnam,” said Ms. Thuy.

The trip to Mui Dien in 2020 sparked the idea, but it was not until 2023 that Thuy's family had the opportunity to carry out this plan.

During the past 2 years, Ms. Thuy has been to provinces and cities across the country. The trips are often combined with long holidays such as Tet, April 30, September 2, etc. Occasionally, she takes leave combined with weekends or summer to make long trips.

“After each trip, looking back at the photos and the journey we took with our children to every corner of the country, we feel extremely happy. Those were truly meaningful trips,” Thuy shared.

The whole family went through a meaningful journey together.

Each trip, each photo is a story. The most memorable trip was probably the nearly 500km journey to Dien Bien on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory.

Ms. Thuy said: “The trip was really hard for children and people who get carsick like me. At that time, Dien Bien was extremely hot, the road was mainly mountain passes with many hairpin bends.

However, my wife and I still decided to go to Dien Bien because there were many commemorative activities and historical reenactments held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory.

My two children have never met so many soldiers, watched the armed forces practice, or heard historical stories. They have somewhat understood the sacrifices and losses of their fathers and brothers for today's peaceful life. Thinking back now, I still feel very emotional."

The most "profitable" thing after the trip

Thuy's family's longest trip lasted 25 days during the Lunar New Year 2024. Thuy sent her car to Ho Chi Minh City first, then took a plane with her husband and children. She chose this method to save travel time because the whole family had already traveled through all the provinces and cities along the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route.

From Ho Chi Minh City, her family went to Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, An Giang, Dong Thap, Long An, Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Kon Tum, Quang Ngai, Quy Nhon, Quang Nam and returned to Hanoi.

The trip brought her family members countless interesting experiences. They got to visit new lands, learn about unique regional cultures, and enjoy delicious food.

For the first time, Ms. Thuy's two children had breakfast at the floating market, went to the market on a boat, shopped for Tet at Sa Dec market on the morning of the 30th of Tet, welcomed New Year's Eve in a strange Tay Ninh, saw with their own eyes and smelled the fresh scent of coffee flowers in the middle of the forest...

“Wherever we go, the whole family wears the national flag, our patriotism and pride in Vietnam is multiplied a hundred thousand times. My daughter said: “I have never seen a country with a national flag as beautiful as ours”. Hearing that, I feel extremely happy,” the young mother shared.

Ms. Thuy said that 90% of her family trips are done by driving their own car. Her family travels to provinces/cities near Hanoi within 200km on weekends. Longer trips usually travel about 200-400km and then stop.

Each trip is scheduled in detail by Thuy and her husband to avoid the situation of going as planned, which is time-consuming, passive and tiring for the children.

Ms. Thuy often books rooms 1 or 2 months in advance by finding reputable addresses herself or using a booking application. “Booking early is both cheap and has many options to choose from,” Ms. Thuy shared her experience.

For long trips, Ms. Thuy prioritizes the experience goal, so she will book moderate hotels, not too luxurious, with room rates from 400,000 to 700,000 VND/night including breakfast.

For other meals, the whole family will choose regional specialties, local restaurants, delicious and cheap food, there are simple dinners for less than 200,000 VND.

The journey to create this unique photo album of the small family sometimes encountered certain difficulties. According to Ms. Thuy, many times, the place they wanted to go was on the opposite direction from the itinerary, so it was quite time-consuming.

“The weather is also an obstacle. There are times when the whole family has to travel a lot, and by the time we get to the check-in point, it is raining heavily or the midday sun is too hot, making the children tired.

There were places where the whole family wanted to check in with the red flag with yellow star shirt, but also wanted to wear other clothes to take pictures, so they had to carry a lot of things. In general, the whole family had to make a lot of effort and always keep their spirits up to achieve the goal of completing the photo series in 2 years," said Ms. Thuy.

Looking back on the journey, Ms. Thuy realized that the most valuable thing was the invaluable experiences with her two children. The two children became bolder and more mature after each trip. Ms. Thuy's eldest daughter increasingly loves history and aims to take the history major exam in high school.

Thuy and her husband are both passionate about traveling and taking photos, but they have never been abroad because they feel that Vietnam becomes more and more beautiful the more they travel, the more surprised they are.

Completing a special plan on the occasion of National Day September 2 this year, Ms. Thuy shared a special photo set on social media. Ms. Thuy's post received thousands of likes.

Ms. Thuy shared the photo series with the desire to convey a positive message: “Love the country, love the family. Love the place where you were born, grew up, studied, matured and lived. Love your husband, children, and family, big and small, because they are the biggest motivation and are the ones who are willing to go with you to the ends of the earth.”
