Live hog and pork prices remain high, with many meat products priced over VND200,000/kg.

The northern and central provinces have pork prices ranging from 68,000 - 69,000 VND/kg, with Ha Tinh having the lowest price of 67,000 VND/kg. The region from Binh Dinh to Binh Thuan and the Central Highlands has pork prices ranging from 70,000 - 73,000 VND/kg.

In the South, the highest price of live pigs at 75,000 VND/kg remained in Long An, Tien Giang and Ben Tre. The remaining provinces maintained prices from 73,000 - 74,000 VND/kg.

The average price of live pigs nationwide is 70,400 VND/kg. According to industry experts, after a slight increase in the first days of the week, the price of live pigs has leveled off in many places because the current price is very high. Compared to the neighboring market of China, the price of live pigs in Vietnam is about 17,000 VND/kg higher, and in the Southern region alone, it is 20,000 VND/kg higher. This will directly affect consumers and reduce purchasing power in the long term.

The high price of live pigs is due to limited supply, especially the sow herd which has been reduced sharply before, causing the rate of herd restoration to be slow, as evidenced by the very high price of piglets, commonly over 2 million VND/pig. Specifically, in the North it is 2.15 million VND/pig, in the South it is 2.08 million VND/pig, and in the Central region it is 1.95 million VND/pig.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the price of pork at wholesale markets is highest at over 90,000 VND/kg. At supermarkets, the retail price of meat is commonly from 150,000 - over 200,000 VND/kg such as: pig tail 233,000 VND/kg, cutlet 115,000 VND/kg, thigh 146,000 VND/kg, pork belly 215,000 VND/kg, ribless pork belly 255,000 VND/kg, boneless pork leg 157,000 VND/kg, lean pork 193,000 VND/kg... At traditional markets, pork prices are 10 - 15% lower than supermarket channels./.
