Rice prices today, May 16th: Fresh paddy rice increased slightly by about 200 VND/kg. However, trading in summer-autumn rice remains quite slow.

Domestic rice prices today, May 16th

In the Mekong Delta, rice prices are generally stable, with low trading volumes. Some types of fresh rice are being purchased by warehouses at slightly higher prices.

Specifically, IR 504 rice ranges from 8,250 - 8,350 VND/kg, CL 555 rice from 8,600 - 8,900 VND/kg, OM 380 at 8,000 - 8,100 VND/kg, OM 18 from 10,200 - 10,400 VND/kg, and 5451 in the range of 9,600 - 9,750 VND/kg. Finished OM 380 rice is currently priced at 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg, while IR 504 reaches 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg.

Prices of by-products also remained high. OM 5451 broken rice traded in the range of 7,350 - 7,450 VND/kg. Rice bran prices fluctuated from 8,000 - 9,000 VND/kg. Other items such as broken rice and rice husks were commonly priced from 7,150 - 9,000 VND/kg.

At wholesale markets such as Sa Dec and An Cu (Cai Be - Tien Giang ), transaction volumes have increased, but prices remain stable. Some rice varieties, such as 50404 and OM 380, have limited supply, and their prices have not fluctuated much.

At retail markets, rice prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Nang Nhen rice maintained the highest price at 28,000 VND/kg. Common rice ranged from 13,000 to 15,000 VND/kg. Jasmine rice fluctuated between 16,000 and 18,000 VND/kg. Fragrant rice varieties such as Thai, Huong Lai, Nang Hoa, Taiwanese, or Japanese rice were sold in the range of 20,000 to 22,000 VND/kg.

Regarding rice prices, many localities recorded an increase of 200 VND/kg for some varieties. Specifically, fresh Dai Thom 8 and OM 18 rice currently range from 6,800 - 7,200 VND/kg. OM 5451 ranges from 5,900 - 6,200 VND/kg, IR 50404 from 5,400 - 5,600 VND/kg, OM 380 from 5,500 - 5,800 VND/kg, and Nang Hoa 9 remains at 6,650 - 6,750 VND/kg.

In provinces such as Can Tho, An Giang, Tien Giang, Kien Giang, and Long An , the supply of summer-autumn rice remains limited, traders are buying slowly, and prices are generally stable.

On the export market, Vietnamese rice prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association, 5% broken rice is currently priced at $397/ton, 25% broken rice at $368/ton, and 100% broken rice at $321/ton.
