The rice market in the Mekong Delta region saw mixed developments on May 21st. While domestic rice prices and by-products remained stable, early summer-autumn rice varieties began to trend upwards due to limited supply. On the international market, Vietnamese export rice prices continued their strong upward trend.
Fluctuations in rice prices in the Western region.
According to data from the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the prices of fresh rice are currently remaining stable. Notably, some localities have recorded a slight increase in the price of early summer-autumn rice as the amount of supply brought to the market is still limited.

| type of rice | Purchase price (VND/kg) |
|---|---|
| OM 18 | 6,500 - 6,700 |
| Fragrance Channel 8 | 6,500 - 6,700 |
| OM 5451 | 5,800 - 6,000 |
| IR 50404 | 5,400 - 5,500 |
| OM 34 | 5,100 - 5,200 |
In An Giang , summer-autumn rice trading is slow due to farmers' reluctance to maintain high prices. Conversely, in Dong Thap, traders are buying cautiously due to the impact of rainy weather reducing rice grain quality. Other localities such as Can Tho, Vinh Long, Ca Mau, and Tay Ninh recorded sluggish trading activity with little price fluctuation.
The raw and retail rice markets remain stable.
For raw rice used in production and export, today's prices remained largely unchanged compared to the previous session. Specifically, OM 5451 rice fluctuated between 9,550 and 9,650 VND/kg; IR 504 raw rice reached 8,400 - 8,550 VND/kg. Dai Thom 8 rice is currently priced at 9,200 - 9,400 VND/kg.
At rice warehouses in An Cu and Sa Dec, Dong Thap province, the amount of stock arriving is relatively low, preventing any significant market fluctuations. For the retail segment at markets, Nang Nhen rice maintains the highest price at 28,000 VND/kg. Common rice varieties like Jasmine are priced at 13,000 - 14,000 VND/kg, while regular rice ranges from 12,000 - 13,000 VND/kg.
Export rice prices have risen sharply on the international market.
According to a report from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnamese export rice prices recorded a significant increase this week. In particular, Jasmine rice was offered at $525-$529 per ton, an increase of $17 per ton compared to the beginning of the week. Fragrant rice with 5% broken grains is currently fluctuating around $505-$520 per ton, while 100% broken grains increased by $5 per ton, reaching $336-$340 per ton.
The global market also witnessed a clear divergence among major rice exporting countries. In Thailand, the price of 5% broken rice increased by $4/ton, reaching $426-$430/ton. Conversely, the price of 5% broken rice from India decreased slightly by $2/ton, to $342-$346/ton due to competitive pressure and domestic supply.
