Domestic rice prices
In the Mekong Delta region, trading activity has started to pick up again. Several large warehouses in Thot Not have joined the market, focusing on purchasing fragrant, sticky rice varieties such as OM 18. Transactions at local markets also remain stable, with no major price changes.
Regarding raw rice, the price of OM 5451 rice ranges from 9,500 to 9,600 VND/kg, OM 380 from 7,700 to 7,850 VND/kg, and IR 504 at 7,800 to 8,000 VND/kg. OM 18 rice is priced between 9,300 and 9,500 VND/kg. The prices of finished IR 504 and Nang Hoa 9 rice remain stable.
At retail markets in An Giang , many types of rice such as Nang Hoa, Soc Thai, and Taiwanese rice have seen a slight decrease in price. Prices range from 15,000 to 28,000 VND/kg depending on the type, with Nang Nhen rice still having the highest price.
The glutinous rice market has not seen any significant fluctuations. Prices for both fresh and dried glutinous rice remain stable, ranging from 7,600 to 9,700 VND/kg.
By-products such as bran, broken rice, and rice husks also saw no major changes in price. Prices ranged from 800 to 7,300 VND/kg, depending on the type.
Meanwhile, the rice market in provinces such as Soc Trang , Can Tho, Long An, and Dong Thap remains sluggish. Despite farmers offering relatively high prices, traders and businesses are still cautious about purchasing. In Soc Trang, however, demand is showing signs of improvement, and traders are becoming more active.
According to information from the An Giang Department of Agriculture , the prices of rice varieties such as Dai Thom 8, IR 50404, OM 380, OM 18, and OM 5451 have all increased by 100 to 200 VND/kg compared to the end of last week. Only Nang Hoa 9 rice remains at the same price of 6,550 to 6,750 VND/kg.
Export rice prices
According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the export price of 5% broken rice from Vietnam is currently being offered at $399 per ton. This price is higher than that of similar rice from Thailand ($396/ton), India ($380/ton), and Pakistan ($389/ton).
For 25% broken rice, Vietnam's export price is currently $370 per ton. This price is $5 lower than Thailand's, but $4 and $11 higher than India and Pakistan, respectively.
Domestic raw rice prices tend to increase slightly after the holiday, due to limited supply and a resurgence in demand for fragrant, sticky rice. However, for rice prices to rise more sharply and stably, the market still needs further impetus from export activities.
According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam exported approximately 2.2 million tons of rice, earning $1.14 billion. Although production increased slightly by 0.6% compared to the same period last year, the value decreased by nearly 20%. The main reason is the sharp drop in the average price of rice, estimated at only about $522 per ton – 20.1% lower than the same period in 2024.
Regarding consumption markets, the Philippines continues to be Vietnam's largest customer, accounting for 42.1% of total rice exports. Meanwhile, Ivory Coast and Ghana rank second and third respectively with market shares of 16.3% and 10.2%. Notably, the value of rice exports to Ivory Coast increased tenfold and to Ghana more than threefold compared to the same period last year, although the Philippine market showed signs of stagnation with a 15.7% decrease in value.
