The price of Ri 6 durian has risen again.

(DONG THAP) Compared to about two weeks ago, the price of Ri 6 durian in Dong Thap province has increased by approximately 10,000 VND/kg. Although durian prices have recovered, this cannot alleviate concerns about the sustainability of the industry.

The price of Ri 6 durian is gradually recovering.

According to reports, the price of Ri 6 durian in the province has increased again in recent days. The common increase is from 5,000 to 10,000 VND/kg. However, overall, the price of Ri 6 durian is still at a low level.

Mr. Tran Van Sau (Hiep Duc commune, Dong Thap province) cultivates 8 acres of durian; including 3 acres of Monthong (Thai) variety and 5 acres of Ri 6. His family recently harvested over 4 tons of Ri 6 durian, selling it at 32,000 VND/kg for bulk purchase.

Mr. Sau shared: “Last year, it was also the peak season, but I sold durian for 45,000 VND/kg. This year, durian is too cheap, but at least the current selling price is better than last week. Last week, some orchards only sold the bulk fruit for 20,000 VND/kg. At this price, I will only break even this year.”

According to Mr. Huynh Thanh Nha, a durian trader in Hoi Cu commune, Dong Thap province, the price of Ri 6 durian has increased by about 10,000 VND/kg compared to more than 10 days ago.

Specifically, durian wholesalers are currently buying Grade A Ri 6 durian at prices ranging from 48,000 to 50,000 VND/kg; Grade B at 30,000 to 35,000 VND/kg. Thai durian, however, is priced at Grade A from 78,000 to 82,000 VND/kg; Grade B at 55,000 to 60,000 VND/kg. Compared to about half a month ago, the price of Ri 6 durian has increased by approximately 10,000 VND/kg.
Dong Thap province is focusing on implementing solutions for the sustainable development of the durian industry.

According to Mr. Nha, durian purchasing activities have become active again. Testing laboratories for Gold O and Cadmium are operating normally again. Currently, the supply of durian is only at an average level.

In reality, many farmers report that with the current price of Ri 6 durian, they are only breaking even or making very little profit. Therefore, farmers hope that durian prices will continue to improve in the coming days.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, the province currently has more than 32,000 hectares of durian orchards, with a production of over 556,000 tons. Currently, Dong Thap has 350 durian growing area codes for export, covering an area of approximately 13,680 hectares.

Recently, durian prices have dropped sharply, and exports have faced difficulties due to several factors, including bottlenecks in the testing process for Cadmium and Yellow O.

Faced with difficulties in selling durian and jackfruit, Dong Thap province has proactively implemented many comprehensive solutions to respond promptly.

Specifically, the province organized a thematic workshop on the development of production, processing, and consumption of durian and jackfruit.

At the same time, the relevant departments are directed to urgently survey and collect samples for analysis of cadmium content and soil pH in key production areas; and to develop a map of cadmium contamination risk distribution to serve management, warning, and appropriate production orientation.

Simultaneously, the province is also focusing on inspecting and monitoring 100% of durian growing areas and packaging facilities serving export markets.

Currently, Dong Thap province is focusing on implementing various solutions to address the "bottlenecks" in durian production and consumption. The main focus is on improving the quality of durian fruit. Accordingly, the province is concentrating on implementing and expanding durian production models that control cadmium levels…

The province also requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to promptly negotiate with the Chinese Customs authorities to assess and approve qualified testing laboratories (including the Center for Applied Research and Scientific and Technological Services and Green Farm Vina Co., Ltd.) in order to quickly supplement testing capacity to serve fruit exports in the province.

In addition, Dong Thap will focus on building a brand for the province's durian, segmenting the market to serve export and processing purposes…
