The global pepper market recorded slight fluctuations. Some pepper varieties had price changes today.

Indonesia:

Black pepper: Indonesian black pepper prices increased by 0.04 USD to 7,154 USD/ton.

White pepper: Muntok white pepper price increased by 0.05 USD to 10,001 USD/ton.

Vietnam: Vietnam's pepper export prices remain stable. Black pepper of 500 g/l and 550 g/l is priced at USD 6,240/ton and USD 6,370/ton, respectively. Meanwhile, white pepper remains at USD 8,950/ton.

It is forecasted that world pepper prices will continue to have small fluctuations. Pepper prices in Indonesia and Malaysia may continue to increase slightly, while pepper prices in Brazil and Vietnam are likely to remain the same or have insignificant changes.

In Brazil, production is expected to reach 89,000 tonnes in 2025, up 26% from 2024, largely due to improved yields. Planted area has been increasing steadily over the past several years and this trend is expected to continue.

Production in India is expected to fall 20% to 48,000 tonnes due to adverse weather, while Indonesia’s output is forecast at 37,000 tonnes after a reduction in planting area.

In terms of prices, after a 65% spike at the end of Vietnam’s 2024 harvest, prices have stabilized. Vietnam’s exports in the first half of 2025 fell 13% year-on-year to 124,000 tonnes. Exports to the US fell 27% year-on-year, after a record 72,000 tonnes in 2024. In contrast, exports to China in the first half rose 25% year-on-year to 9,000 tonnes, after two years of stagnation.

Brazilian exports in the first half of 2025 increased by 34% year-on-year to 50,000 tons, of which exports to Vietnam nearly tripled to 18,000 tons.

Indonesia's exports in the first quarter increased 81% year-on-year to 12,000 tonnes, mainly thanks to Vietnam and China, but from March onwards fell below 2024 levels.

US tariffs continue to cause uncertainty and have mixed impacts. Some importers have suspended operations. Vietnam is particularly affected because the US is its largest market, while Brazil’s direct dependence is more limited. Brazil’s share of US exports will fall from 6% in 2024 to 2% by 2025.

Pepper price today August 23, 2025 in the country

This morning, pepper prices in key production areas in Vietnam fluctuated slightly. The purchase price fluctuated between 142,500 - 146,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, pepper price in Dak Nong reached 146,000 VND/kg, an increase of 3,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

Dak Lak and Ba Ria – Vung Tau both maintained the price of 144,000 VND/kg. Of which, Dak Lak increased by 1,000 VND/kg, while Ba Ria – Vung Tau increased by 1,000 VND/kg.

Other localities such as Gia Lai and Binh Phuoc also fluctuated. Gia Lai increased by 500 VND/kg, reaching 142,500 VND/kg and Binh Phuoc increased by 3,000 VND/kg, reaching 144,000 VND/kg.

With these slight fluctuations, it is forecasted that domestic pepper prices may continue to maintain a slight increase, especially in areas with strong increases such as Dak Nong and Binh Phuoc. However, the increase may not be too large, and the market will gradually stabilize again.

According to the latest report by Nedspice, global pepper production in 2025 is estimated at 434,000 tonnes, the same as last year. Global demand has exceeded supply for five consecutive years, leading to low global inventories.

In Vietnam, the 2025 harvest is estimated at 172,000 tonnes, down 2% from last year and 47% below the peak in 2018-19, due to reduced planting area. No significant expansion of acreage is recorded for the next crop. Vietnam's harvest is slightly lower, making the country more dependent on imports. Accordingly, Vietnam's pepper imports in the first half of 2025 increased by 57% year-on-year to 28,000 tonnes, contributing to supplementing scarce supplies.
