In Hung Yen, a land rich in revolutionary traditions, the work of educating students about these traditions is being implemented through creative, profound, and emotionally rich methods. These activities not only help students understand the nation's history but also awaken pride, foster patriotism, and instill a sense of responsibility towards their homeland.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), nearly 1,200 students from Tran Quoc Tuan High School participated in the provincial flag-raising ceremony and formed a map of Vietnam on August 29th at the school. Ms. Pham Thi Bich Ngoc, the school's Vice Principal, stated: "This is an educational activity that instills tradition and national pride, helping students deeply understand the sacred image of the Fatherland, fostering patriotism and awareness of protecting territorial sovereignty . At the same time, it demonstrates the spirit of unity, with each student being a 'piece' together creating the map of the country, thereby nurturing the responsibility of the younger generation towards Vietnam."
Over the years, the school has always emphasized traditional education through flag-raising ceremonies, extracurricular activities, traditional talks, and integration into each subject.
Many parents expressed their admiration and emotion at the traditional educational activities at the school. Ms. Tran Thi Lan, whose child attends Yen Phu Kindergarten (Viet Yen commune), shared: "The children participated in decorating the classroom, wearing red shirts with the yellow star flag, and went with their teacher to light incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs. I was very moved to see the children attentively listening, preparing flowers, and lighting incense to commemorate the martyrs. These activities help children develop love for their homeland and country at an early age, and learn to appreciate the contributions of previous generations."
Along with Tran Quoc Tuan High School and Yen Phu Kindergarten, many schools are promoting traditional education through activities such as "Paying gratitude and showing respect," "Remembering the source of the water we drink," and practical experiences at military units. Practical actions such as visiting and giving gifts to families of war veterans and heroic Vietnamese mothers; cleaning up martyrs' cemeteries; organizing trips to historical sites... are regularly organized, spreading profound humanistic values and helping students better understand the responsibilities of today's generation. Many schools also cooperate with military units to organize visits for students to learn about the lives and discipline of soldiers. Nguyen Minh Tam, a student at Nguyen Thien Thuat High School, said: "Through the teachers' lectures and extracurricular activities exploring history, I clearly feel the ferocity of war and the losses of previous generations. Recently, I wore a red flag shirt with a yellow star to participate in the nationwide walk 'Together with Vietnam'." I am deeply moved and proud to be a descendant of national heroes. I tell myself that I must study harder and live more responsibly to be worthy of their sacrifices.
Accompanying schools in extracurricular activities, many veterans directly shared stories, interacted, and passed on the flame of tradition. After meeting with students from Bac Duyen Ha High School, veteran Pham Van Lai (who planted the liberation flag on the water tower of Tan Son Nhat airport at 9:30 AM on April 30, 1975) confided: "Seeing the children eager to learn about history makes me very happy. They not only want to understand the past, but also learn lessons to build the future. The pride and responsibility of today's young generation is the great hope of the nation."
Traditional educational activities not only help the younger generation better understand the history of the struggle for national independence, but also serve as a link between the past and the present, fostering gratitude, inspiring a spirit of striving, and instilling a sense of responsibility in building a more prosperous, beautiful, and civilized homeland.
