Efforts to fulfill the role of youth "leader"
Recalling the time he first became involved in Youth Union activities, Nguyen Minh Quan said: While working as a physical education teacher, in 2016 he was elected Deputy Secretary of the school's Youth Union, and a year later he was elected Secretary of the Youth Union of Nguyen Trai High School.
According to Mr. Quan, Nguyen Trai High School has a long history of achievements in teaching and learning, as well as in youth union activities and movements. The teachers and students here are dynamic and perceptive. And notably, this is a unique area – up to 90% of the students are religious. Youth activities in the parishes are very strong. As someone who is not religious, understanding and organizing activities that attract youth union members and students to participate is not easy at all.
With the mindset that challenges are opportunities to test, train, and affirm one's abilities, after receiving the assignment, Mr. Quan approached students to learn about the specifics of the Catholic community, the activities of young people in parishes, and to identify similarities and differences between activities in parishes and in schools. In addition, he connected with former students who were catechists in parishes to support the organization of activities at the school.
Notably, in addition to the visible activities, he integrated educational and propaganda content; especially political and ideological education for union members and students. Simultaneously, Mr. Quan established three clubs: arts and culture, media, and drama. These clubs served as places for union members and students to participate in activities and showcase their talents, while also providing resources for major commemorative events. He then established additional clubs: Charity, English, and Green Living… These clubs will be responsible for carrying out activities related to social welfare and environmental protection.
In recent years, students have not only sought opportunities for interaction within their own school but also with students from other universities. Therefore, he has facilitated connections for student union members to interact with high schools, colleges, and universities within and even outside the province. In the context of current digital transformation, to enable student union members to learn about technology and artificial intelligence, he advised the school's Board of Directors to connect with institutions such as Dong Nai University of Technology and Lac Hong University to organize a series of activities introducing robotics and artificial intelligence. Through these activities organized by the school's student union, student union members gain valuable experience and preparation to confidently enter life.
Continuously innovating
That's the feeling of student Vu Hoang Bao Chau, class 11A6, Nguyen Trai High School, regarding the activities organized by the school's Youth Union.
Bao Chau cited examples: During the recent Vietnamese Teachers' Day celebration on November 20th, the school's Youth Union organized many activities such as fairs, folk dances, cultural performances, and wall newspapers… Or, around the Lunar New Year, the Youth Union will organize a traditional fair and a Spring Camp. These are not just simple recreational and social activities, but also valuable educational environments for union members and students; opportunities for students to practice life skills, teamwork, organization, communication, creativity, and adaptability in a group environment…
Thanks to his efforts and contributions to the Youth Union and the Youth Movement in schools, Mr. Nguyen Minh Quan has achieved many titles: Outstanding Young Party Member of Dong Nai Province, Outstanding Youth Leader of Dong Nai Province, Advanced Youth Following Uncle Ho's Teachings in the Southeast Region; Outstanding Young Face Award of Dong Nai Province; Ly Tu Trong Award of the Central Youth Union… and recently, he was one of the individuals honored at the First Emulation Congress of Dong Nai Province, 2025-2030.
Not only is he creative in every Youth Union activity, but from his experience organizing Youth Union activities in schools, he has proposed many initiatives and solutions that contribute to improving the quality of Youth Union work and the Youth Movement in schools. In 2024, Mr. Quan proposed a solution to improve the quality of Youth Union work and the Youth Movement through the model of clubs, teams, and groups.
According to Mr. Quan, Nguyen Trai High School currently has 7 clubs, teams, and groups. Students who participate in these clubs and groups develop skills, have an environment to unleash their creativity, and understand their role in each program and activity of the club, team, or group.
Regarding improving reading culture among students, Mr. Quan proposed equipping classroom hallways with bookshelves. To implement this model, the school launched a campaign encouraging staff, teachers, students, and parents to voluntarily contribute age-appropriate books, creating mini-libraries in the hallways. Before class, during recess, or while waiting for friends, students can easily read books… This creates motivation for students to participate in reading and develop a reading habit…
These initiatives and solutions demonstrate the enthusiasm of young people and their unceasing creativity, contributing to making Youth Union activities in schools more accessible, engaging, and effective, attracting more members and students to participate.
