TPO - All teachers at Yen Khe Secondary School (Con Cuong district, Nghe An province) have voluntarily submitted applications to provide free extra tutoring for students after Circular 29 came into effect.
On February 20th, Mr. Nguyen Van Hao, Principal of Yen Khe Secondary School (Con Cuong district, Nghe An province), announced that all 16 teachers at the school had voluntarily submitted applications to provide free extra tutoring for students.
"Although they have to work overtime, the teachers all volunteer to teach for free with a relaxed, responsible, and dedicated spirit, all for the sake of their beloved students. To date, we have organized two lessons," Mr. Hao shared.
Mr. Hao stated that previously, extra tutoring was conducted according to Circular 17 of the Ministry of Education and Training . However, this activity ended after the completion of the first semester, before Circular 29 came into effect. When some teachers proposed providing free extra tutoring, the school held a party committee meeting and gathered opinions from all teachers.
“During the Party branch meeting, 100% of the teachers at the school unanimously agreed to provide free extra tutoring for students. The teachers agreed to organize 1-2 review and knowledge consolidation sessions for students each week. Physical education teachers also participate in teaching extracurricular subjects such as sepak takraw and volleyball. Teachers also assign homework for students to study independently, and every 2-3 weeks, the subject departments will check on students' self-study at home,” Mr. Hao said.

According to the Principal, the opinions have been incorporated into the school's Party branch resolution. For 9th-grade students, the school has met with teachers of the three exam subjects to help them prepare as best as possible for the 10th-grade entrance exam.
Previously, the school and parents agreed to collect 18,000 VND per session to cover electricity, water, stationery, and teacher's fees for extra classes. However, currently, providing free extra classes could affect teachers' income. Despite proposals for financial support from parents, the school has decided not to accept assistance to organize these classes, following directives from the Government and the Ministry of Education and Training.
It is commendable that, in addition to the school's permanent teachers, two English teachers from other schools also volunteer to teach extra classes. Among them, Mr. Dang Ngoc Quy, a teacher from Thach Ngan Ethnic Boarding School, located more than 20km from Yen Khe Secondary School, still manages to teach both regular classes and extra classes for grades 7 and 8 every Friday.
Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra Ly, a teacher at Bong Khe Primary School, despite having to teach at two different levels, is still willing to share her knowledge with the school's students because English is always a difficult subject for students in the mountainous region.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Yen Khe Secondary School has 11 classes with nearly 400 students, of which more than 90% are children of ethnic minorities, mainly the Thai people, including some Dan Lai people. Despite facing many difficulties, the school still maintains its top position in Con Cuong district.
