Introducing the electronic database of ethnic languages

(Baoquangngai.vn) - On the morning of August 14, in Quang Ngai City, the Center for Information Technology and Communications (Department of Information and Communications) held a scientific workshop to introduce the research results of the project "Building an electronic database of ethnic minority languages ​​Viet - Hre, Viet - Co".

Attending the workshop were leaders of the departments: Information and Communications, Construction, Provincial Ethnic Committee; representatives of the People's Committees of the districts: Ba To, Tra Bong, Son Ha, Minh Long, Son Tay; experts from the Institute of Linguistics, lecturers from the University of Technical Education, Da Nang University; Pacific University; Pham Van Dong University...

The topic "Building an electronic database of ethnic minority languages ​​Viet - Hre, Viet - Co" is chaired by MSc. Tran Duy Linh - Director of Quang Ngai Information Technology and Communication Center; MSc. Tran Van Man - Director of the Department of Construction is co-chaired by the topic.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, MSc. Tran Van Man said that the provincial-level science and technology project "Building an electronic database of ethnic minority languages ​​of Viet - Hre, Viet - Co" was approved in Decision No. 2109/QD-UBND dated December 23, 2021 of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. After nearly 18 months of implementation, the tasks set out by the project have been basically completed.

The research objective of the topic is to support the teaching, learning and research on the language and writing of the Hre and Cor people, contributing to narrowing the economic, cultural and social development gap between ethnic minority areas and other areas in the province, especially the gap in communication between ethnic groups; promote economic and social development; preserve and introduce the cultural identity and customs of the Hre and Cor people.

At the same time, the implementation of the topic is based on the practical need to apply digital technology to serve all areas of life, especially contributing to the preservation and maintenance of the languages ​​of ethnic minorities in Quang Ngai province.

The application of the topic helps to search conveniently and flexibly between Hrê, Cor and Vietnamese, including the following functions: Translate words, pronounce words, see illustrative examples, see synonyms - near-synonyms; forward and reverse translation (Vietnamese - Hrê, Hrê - Vietnamese; Vietnamese - Co; Co - Vietnamese). The application has voice recognition using artificial intelligence (AI) technology; helps to search and pronounce Hrê, Cor and Vietnamese.

Speaking at the workshop, experts said that the research and application of the results and products of the project have brought outstanding benefits in teaching, learning and preserving the languages ​​of ethnic minorities in Quang Ngai province.

Specifically, it has improved the performance of learning ethnic minority languages; increased concentration, with the use of apps via mobile devices to help learners learn Cor and Hrê languages ​​easily anytime, anywhere; saved costs and self-adjusted learning locations.

According to the Project Management Board, to date, the research results have reached users through 5 training courses implemented in 5 mountainous districts and Community Digital Technology Teams at all levels in the province, through social networking platforms.
