On January 24, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of An Giang, An Giang Provincial Museum, in coordination with the An Giang Antiquities Association, organized the opening ceremony of the thematic exhibition "Dragon image in traditional Vietnamese decorative art".
The exhibition introduces to the public nearly 200 precious artifacts of An Giang Provincial Museum and a number of individuals and collectors inside and outside the province.

The exhibits on display this time have cultural, historical, aesthetic and rare values, reflecting the socio-cultural life of the residents of the Southern region and have been carefully preserved to this day.
These are artifacts with dragon images in Vietnamese culture from the early 20th century to the present, used in decorative arts as well as daily life. The artifacts are created and decorated very vividly and meticulously by artisans on many materials such as: pottery, wood, ivory, glass paintings, jewelry...
The thematic exhibition "Dragon image in traditional Vietnamese decorative art" conveys meaningful and good wishes to the public on the occasion of the Year of the Dragon 2024, with the hope that the new year will bring many lucky, good things, and aspirations for the homeland and country.

In Vietnamese culture, the dragon is a mascot symbolizing power, luck and prosperity. In the minds of the Vietnamese people, the dragon is also the origin of the nation, associated with the legend "Dragon's Children, Fairy's Grandchildren".
Over the course of history, the image of the dragon, although it has evolved and changed some characteristics, is still considered a cultural symbol, widely used in all aspects of social life, from royal architectural decoration to folk architecture, religion, beliefs and daily living utensils...
The thematic exhibition "Dragon Image in Traditional Vietnamese Decorative Art" takes place until April 24 at An Giang Provincial Museum.

Also on this occasion, 20 collectors donated 83 artifacts and 1 group of artifacts to An Giang Provincial Museum, thereby diversifying and enriching the Museum's artifacts to serve the needs of research, display, and promoting the value of national cultural heritage.
