| The cultural heritage and people of A Lưới, as depicted in these sketches, are truly captivating to viewers. |
There, viewers will be able to admire more than 150 sketches on various themes about the A Lưới highlands through two creative sessions titled "The Journey of Sketching the Beauty of A Lưới's Traditional Culture," organized in 2023 and 2025.
Each artwork tells a story, and through the language of sketching, the artists have conveyed the colorful aspects of both the tangible and intangible culture of the Pa Co, Ta Oi, Pa Hy, and Co Tu ethnic groups in the A Luoi highlands. All of this creates a diverse and vibrant cultural tapestry, likened to a living museum of architecture, customs, and daily life of the people across generations.
As viewers browse through the artworks, they will be captivated by the scenes of zèng weaving, which, though familiar, still possess a poetic quality when depicted in paintings. Not only the artisans at their looms, but also the colorful zèng fabrics and beads immediately establish a traditional craft of A Lưới that has been inscribed on the heritage map.
Then, the Moong houses (long stilt houses) of the Pa Co people, the Rong houses of the Ta Oi people, and the Guol houses of the Co Tu people, depicted in watercolors or pencil drawings, also reflect the essence of this region's culture, preserved by the people of A Luoi to this day.
Besides works depicting architecture and traditional crafts, there are also many works about nature, people, and the lives of the people in the A Lưới highlands. These could be crystal-clear waterfalls, green rice fields at the foot of hills next to peaceful houses, or the bustling scene of a market at dawn… and mothers sometimes carrying their children to the fields, sometimes quietly weaving mats, baskets, or making cakes.

| Architectural structures and picturesque landscapes as seen through the eyes of a sketch artist. |
Through their free interpretation and artistic brushstrokes, architects and artists, both professional and amateur, have almost perfectly captured the rich culture of A Lưới through their sketches. Each sketch, created, displayed, and preserved, contributes to safeguarding and promoting the unique traditional cultural values of the ethnic groups in A Lưới.
According to Ms. Dinh Thi Hoai Trai, Director of the Hue Fine Arts Museum - the organizer of the exhibition - A Luoi is a land possessing a rich and unique cultural treasure, expressed through its language, costumes, festivals, Zèng weaving, folk songs and dances, and a system of folk knowledge. In the context of integration, urbanization, and cultural exchange, many traditional cultural values of this region are facing the risk of disappearing.
Therefore, preserving, conserving, and developing the valuable traditional cultural values and identities of the ethnic minority communities in the A Lưới highlands is an extremely important task. It not only honors and promotes the precious local heritage but also contributes to the development of community tourism and the education of traditional culture for the younger generation.
Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City, acknowledges that, within the overall cultural map of Hue, A Luoi - the western border mountainous region - always holds a special position. This is a land that brings together the cultural essence of many ethnic minorities, preserving a treasure trove of tangible and intangible heritage, along with rich indigenous knowledge in interacting with nature, forests, mountains, and streams.
These values are the "golden threads" that create the colorful tapestry of Hue culture, enriching the identity of a multi-layered, multi-dimensional, and humane heritage city.
