I love Vietnamese Tet even more.

Tet Nguyen Dan (Lunar New Year) is a long-standing cultural tradition, embodying the profound spiritual values of the Vietnamese people. Bringing traditional Tet celebrations into schools and to children through hands-on activities not only enriches school life but is also an effective way to spread, preserve, and cultivate national cultural identity for the younger generation.

"Touching" the Tet holiday

In the hearts of every Vietnamese person, the traditional Lunar New Year is always a sacred and profound memory. Tet not only marks the transition between the old and new year but also serves as an opportunity for people to connect with their roots and cherish beautiful traditional values. Especially since ancient times, Tet has always been eagerly awaited by children. No matter how busy or hectic their lives are, every family tries to prepare for Tet for their children, from new clothes to cakes, sweets, and toys. Therefore, even as adults, many still remember Tet as a part of their childhood, intertwined with family and community memories, and imbued with the cultural identity of each household.

Today, the modern Tet holiday has undergone many changes, but its values, identity, and spirit remain intact. As students become increasingly familiar with technology and social media, and have fewer opportunities to fully experience the traditional Tet atmosphere, Tet is being revived in every school and through every cultural and artistic activity that students participate in. In recent days, schools throughout Dong Nai province have been bustling with Tet atmosphere, with joyful spring festivals featuring many meaningful activities. Tet is being brought into schools through diverse activities, allowing students to "touch" Tet through authentic experiences.

In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), Ha Huy Giap Primary School (Trang Dai Ward) dons a vibrant spring-themed appearance. From the school gate and playground to each classroom, lively and traditional-themed decorations are everywhere. This activity is the result of the joint efforts of teachers and parents, creating familiar spaces to experience Tet of the past. This helps students immerse themselves in the spring atmosphere, understand the origins and meanings of each custom and tradition, not only through theory but also through emotion and memory.

Activities exploring traditional Tet (Lunar New Year) also help educate students about the moral principle of "drinking water, remembering the source," the meaning of reunion, filial piety, and family bonding. Stories about Tet feasts, New Year's greetings to grandparents, or the significance of the first day of the new year will nurture in them an appreciation for the traditions and beautiful cultural values of the nation.

Tet is about closeness and sharing.

A warm and fulfilling Tet (Lunar New Year) is always the goal and aspiration of every family. Therefore, sharing during Tet with those in difficult circumstances has become a beautiful cultural tradition of the nation. Practical activities at spring festivals in schools have contributed to spreading this spirit, making Tet even warmer and more complete. At Tan Xuan Secondary School ( Binh Phuoc Ward), the school mobilized 288 gift packages to donate to students in difficult circumstances, with a total value of over 156 million VND.

According to Ms. Trinh Thi Phuong Mai, Principal of Tan Xuan Secondary School, bringing traditional Tet (Lunar New Year) into schools is also an opportunity for teachers to innovate educational methods, combining learning and experience, knowledge and practice. At the same time, it's a chance for the school to connect with parents and the community, together creating a warm and welcoming Tet cultural space within the school environment.

To help the younger generation better understand Tet and experience the traditional Tet atmosphere of the nation, at the Dong Nai Children's House, in addition to the "Celebrating the Party - Celebrating Spring" art program with special performances, children also participated in activities such as costume shows with the theme "Spring Colors of Childhood," calligraphy booths, folk games, etc.

For the children of Lac Hong Bilingual Kindergarten (Tran Bien Ward), spring is even more meaningful as they experience activities with their parents such as wearing traditional Vietnamese ao dai dresses, creating shapes from coconut leaves, printing Dong Ho folk paintings, dyeing fabric, wrapping banh tet (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), and decorating lucky money envelopes. Furthermore, they also prepare small gifts for their friends at the Thien Binh Protection Center, making the spring even more loving and meaningful.

Ms. Tran Chi (residing in Bien Hoa ward) believes that Tet (Vietnamese New Year) experiential activities in schools provide meaningful experiences for both students and parents, helping them preserve the beautiful cultural traditions of the nation in modern life. To help students truly appreciate and love Vietnamese Tet, these activities need to be carefully selected and appropriate for each age group and student, focusing on relevance and practicality.

Spreading the message and meaning of the traditional Lunar New Year not only helps students understand the past but also builds a cultural foundation for the future. When these values are nurtured from an early age, Tet will not just be a holiday, but will become a beautiful memory and a source of cultural pride that will accompany them throughout their journey of growth and integration with the world.
