The unique cultural values of the nation will be strongly spread when applying advanced technologies to cultural activities. |
Nowadays, all areas of cultural life are moving in a positive direction thanks to the application of modern technology. We have basically built a digital data source on cultural heritage, which is the basis for evaluating, managing, researching, preserving, promoting and advertising culture.
Spread Strongly
With the strong development of technology, today everyone can easily access information, learn, study and create culture. New technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 3D scanning technology, virtual reality (AR), augmented reality (VR), extended reality (XR), blockchain technology, near-field communication technology (NFC), big data... have all been strongly applied in culture.
For example, recently archaeologists have used 3D imaging technology to store and recreate artifacts at the Vuon Chuoi site ( Hanoi ). In the three-dimensional space from the excavation pit supported by technology, maximum real data has been collected to serve research work. The support of technology helps to clarify the expert's assessment of the prehistoric period of the nation from 3,500 to 4,000 years ago.
The project of Digital Identification and Exhibition of Nguyen Dynasty Antiquities was carried out at the Hue Museum of Royal Antiquities using Blockchain and NFC technology to manage and identify the antiquities. When using a smartphone to scan the chip attached to the antiquities, visitors to the museum can immediately find out information about the origin and meaning of the antiquities at museehue.vn. A representative of the Hue Museum of Royal Antiquities said that every day, thousands of visitors access the online space, and technology has helped spread images, data, and knowledge about the museum's artifacts to a large audience.
At the Temple of Literature (Hanoi), the project “Application of digital physical technology to enhance heritage values” has been implemented with many practical contents. The project is a collaboration of many experts to search for traditional cultural values at risk of being lost, applying Nomion digital identification technology (a combination of NFC chip and Blockchain) to create a unique digital identity for each physical product, with the purpose of preserving and promoting cultural values in life.
In fact, most industries and fields in culture such as performing arts, heritage, tourism, photography-exhibition, music, advertising... have all joined in the digital transformation work.
The opening campaign of the project named “Tam Chan” helps create the first digital physical book in Vietnam called “Nghe noi cua Khong san Trinh”. Thanks to that, the image of Nghe - a pure Vietnamese sacred animal in the space of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam spread widely to the people and international tourists, helping to promote Vietnamese culture. To enjoy this special book, visitors can use their smartphones to interact with the RFID chip attached to the bronze Nghe statue in Van Mieu…
In fact, most industries and fields in culture such as performing arts, heritage, tourism, photography-exhibition, music, advertising... have all joined the digital transformation, giving priority to appropriate investment in applying technology as an inevitable trend. Thanks to technology, many products and cultural values have reached international friends, introducing a unique and modern Vietnam on the path of integration.
A solid foundation for conservation and development
In the context of the digital transformation of the whole society, culture, as the spiritual foundation of society, the goal, the endogenous strength, the important driving force for national development, needs to be given special priority so as not only not to be left behind, but also to be one step ahead, like a "lighting the way". In today's world, culture, economics, and politics are always intertwined, and culture is an important field, with a special position in the competition for the overall strength of each country, cultural industries are a special field, bringing both economic benefits and social and humanistic values.
Experiences from many developed countries in the world show that cultural industries lead the way to economic development. To develop cultural industries, the application of technology to transform cultural values into consumer products, bringing economic benefits to each locality and country is an inevitable requirement. The strong development of technology has helped form cultural industries, expand service markets, spread cultural power to all classes of people and to the world, thereby promoting international cooperation and exchange, creating national soft power.
Technology brings many opportunities, providing many solutions to preserve, promote and spread culture.
Technology brings many opportunities, providing many solutions to preserve, promote and spread culture. If we know how to take advantage of the power of technology in exploiting and promoting cultural values, we can attract the attention of the international community from tourist destinations, cultural heritages, delicious dishes, and unique traditional arts bearing the mark of Vietnam.
Surveys show that in many cultural relics, tourist attractions, museums, etc., the application of digital technology creates a significant additional source of revenue from selling tickets, producing and distributing souvenirs that are certified copies of heritage artifacts. Mr. Huy Nguyen, General Director of Phygital Lab, a unit that has coordinated to provide digital solutions for many cultural units, said that with the strong application of digital technology in culture today, we can move towards trading digital versions of heritage artifacts on digital markets, or digital physical markets in the near future.
Critic Ngo Thao believes that one of the most important meanings of applying science and technology to culture is to help meet people's cultural enjoyment needs, creating equal opportunities for people in all regions to access, learn and create culture. Thanks to technology, people in mountainous or lowland areas, cities or rural areas can access applications via smart devices to search for cultural knowledge, research and learn, interact and choose destinations...
In terms of expanding international exchanges, technology with its superior features can introduce and promote Vietnamese cultural values to the world. From here, Vietnam's unique cultural values can easily reach international friends, creating an attraction for tourism, helping Vietnam become a popular cultural destination. In that sense, technology has helped elevate Vietnamese cultural values in the international arena, because to expand cooperative relations and integrate deeply into the world, cultural diplomacy is the core story.
Cultural products imbued with Vietnamese identity entering the international market not only enhance the nation’s soft power but also promote trade development, strengthen friendly relations, and create and protect national security in a subtle and profound way. When technology becomes a powerful modern tool, the cultural values crystallizing thousands of years of the nation’s history will have the opportunity to fly high and far.
The National Target Program on Cultural Development for the 2025-2035 period, approved by the National Assembly on November 27, 2024, sets a target of striving for cultural industries to have an average annual growth rate of 7%, contributing 8% to the country's GDP.
One of the proposed solutions to achieve the goals is to increase the application of technology to digitize cultural values, turn culture into a strong flow with specific products, expand domestic and international markets to both introduce and promote culture and bring economic benefits to the country.
To do this, we need to first focus on developing digital infrastructure to support creative industries, such as high-speed internet, online platforms and modern technology applications. In terms of human resources, we need to promote in-depth training for artists, artisans and creators so that they can skillfully use technology in their activities, bringing new beauty to cultural products.
Managers and employees working in the cultural sector need to change their mindset and update new trends in technology, because technology is something that is always changing and improving. Mastering technology will help cultural workers proactively propose investment plans and policies, apply and promote culture. This is also the basis for successfully implementing the goals in the Cultural Development Strategy to 2030 issued by the Government.
Vietnam can confidently become a cultural industrial center of Southeast Asia. With the attention of the whole society, with appropriate investment in science and technology as a powerful support tool, culture will increasingly develop, not only contributing to the country's economic growth but also affirming and spreading a unique image of Vietnam, rich in identity to the world.
