In the blazing sun, many workers still stay to construct the Highway 51 overpass project, part of the 991B road project. |
Overcome sun, overcome wind
At 11am, at the construction site of the Highway 51 overpass, part of the 991B Road project, the road surface was steaming hot, the asphalt and the grease-covered formwork reflected the sunlight, making the air even more stifling. Wiping his sweat, worker Thai Van Tuan, Long Bien Bridge and Road Joint Stock Company, shared: “The heat rose from both under his feet and above his head, it was tiring but I got used to it. Every time we finished a project, we felt excited.”
At the Phuoc An bridge construction site, a key traffic junction connecting the Ba Ria - Vung Tau seaport system, the working atmosphere is equally exciting. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan, 620 Investment and Development Joint Stock Company said: "No matter how tired you are, you cannot be negligent, because just one small mistake can affect the whole project."
On the concrete beams under construction, calloused hands still carefully check each section of steel, each joint, each concrete block. All with the same goal of ensuring progress while maintaining the quality of the project.
Much more difficult than other areas is Package 39, part of the Phuoc An Bridge project. This section is constructed at an altitude of 60m-70m, where there is often strong wind, causing many obstacles for workers and equipment during the work process. Mr. Le Minh Thao, one of the workers here, shared: "Strong wind, hot sun, everyone is tired. But progress does not wait for anyone, we have to work while the weather is still dry."
Climbing high, protecting themselves from the sun, and staying safe, they are like warriors at the construction site, silently but persistently, so that each bridge segment is reconnected and each meter of road is cleared.
The silent people who build the avenue
To take advantage of favorable weather conditions before the rainy season, contractors proactively adjusted their working hours, starting early in the morning, taking longer lunch breaks to avoid the harsh sunlight, and working overtime when the weather was cool. At the same time, taking care of workers’ health was also a top priority.
Mr. Pham Van Kien, Commander of the Highway 51 overpass project, said: “We require the construction team to provide adequate water and electrolytes, and have a medical team check their health every two hours. Thanks to that, our workers have enough strength to stay on the construction site on sunny days.”

Behind each gradually completed road section is the sweat and relentless perseverance of hundreds of people. For them, each meter of road is a mark, a testament to team spirit and pride in work.
“When completed, the highway or bridge will not only connect the land but also connect the desire for change,” young worker Tran Van Xuan shared, his eyes shining with pride.
At key traffic construction sites, road workers are the silent workers, contributing day by day to build the future avenue. Without needing glory or praise, they work silently, like new roads quietly paving the way for the rising aspirations of this land.
