There is a specific strategy.

To motivate and inspire 9th-grade students preparing for the 10th-grade entrance exam, on March 27th, Tran Duy Hung Secondary School (Yen Hoa Ward, Hanoi) organized the program "Conquering High School - Burn Brightly to Shine". At this event, students listened to teachers and senior students share effective study and exam preparation methods during the final stages of preparation.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Kim Anh, Principal of Tran Duy Hung Secondary School, believes that during the final stages of preparation, students need to develop smart revision methods, focusing on key content. Practice tests shouldn't be done in a haphazard way, but rather with clear goals, emphasizing identifying mistakes and noting them down to avoid repetition.

Furthermore, participating in mock exams plays a crucial role in developing confidence, exam-taking psychology, and concentration skills. Students can participate in exams organized by the school or external organizations, or practice with sample tests at home to familiarize themselves with the pressure similar to a real exam. In addition, students need to balance studying and rest, maintain a reasonable lifestyle, avoid staying up late, and ensure proper nutrition to be in the best possible state before the exam.

This can be considered the final stage in reviewing and preparing for the important exam, said Associate Professor Dr. Le Kim Anh. The school has developed a specific and in-depth review plan, focusing on three key subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and English. Teaching is tailored to different student groups, ensuring close attention to each student and leaving no one behind. At the same time, teachers are intensifying practice tests and providing detailed feedback to help students solidify their knowledge and test-taking skills.

Allocate your time wisely.

One of the important things that teachers emphasize to students during the review process, especially in the final stages, is the importance of proper time management. While the knowledge is prepared, allocating time wisely ensures both physical and mental well-being. Only then can students absorb the knowledge effectively and be ready for the exam.

According to Ms. Ho Thi Phuong, an English teacher at Tran Duy Hung Secondary School, students need to focus on three key concepts: in-depth learning, thorough understanding, and solid application. "In-depth learning" means comprehensively understanding the knowledge, from vocabulary to grammar; "thorough learning" means grasping the essence instead of rote memorization; and "solid application" means focusing on the quality of each practice test, analyzing mistakes, and learning from experience.

Meanwhile, Ms. Chu Thanh Hang, a Literature teacher at Tran Duy Hung Secondary School, emphasized three key elements: "Study correctly – review sufficiently – do thoroughly." Students need to master the basic knowledge, practice all types of questions, and know how to allocate time wisely during the exam. The important thing in Literature is not to write overly flowery language, but to understand deeply, feel correctly, and have a clear opinion.

The highlight of the program, designed to motivate 9th-grade students as they prepare for the 10th-grade entrance exam, is the appearance of former students from the school.

Nguyen Son Hai, a former student of Tran Duy Hung Secondary School and currently an English major at Chu Van An High School for the Gifted (Tay Ho Ward, Hanoi), believes that the journey of taking the entrance exam for 10th grade always comes with pressure and moments of insecurity. However, when students clearly define their goals and persevere, they will have more motivation to overcome difficulties.

Sharing with the 9th-grade students, Nguyen Son Hai said: "Once I set my goals, I deleted games from my phone and used social media less. Every evening, I study from 7:30 PM to 12:00 AM. During that time, I dedicate 1 to 1.5 hours to each subject. With that amount of time, I write an essay or paragraph that requires high-level thinking. For Math, I need to carefully read the question, think critically, and use a pen to scratch paper to get the answer. I need to practice so that when I see a question, I know what to do."

In addition, during the program, students also receive guidance from teachers on registering their preferences based on past years' cutoff scores, mock exam results, and teacher advice to choose options that match their abilities.

The entrance exam for 10th grade in Hanoi's public high schools for the 2026-2027 school year will take place over two days, May 30th and 31st. Candidates will take exams in three subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language. Mathematics and Literature exams will be essay-based, with 120 minutes allotted for each subject. The Foreign Language exam will be multiple-choice, with 60 minutes allotted.
