Gmail adds a green verification feature.

According to Engadget , when users receive emails from a Gmail account with a verified address, they will see a green checkmark next to the name in their inbox.

The checkmark update is Google's latest implementation of Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) technology – a feature Google began testing in Gmail in 2020. Initially, it allowed brands that had registered for BIMI to include authenticated icons in their emails. The green checkmark was a clear indicator to verify that the sender was legitimate.

A verification message appears when the user clicks the green checkmark.

When hovering over the green checkmark in Gmail, users will see a pop-up window that says, " The sender of this email has verified that they own [the domain was sent from] and the logo in the profile image . " The pop-up includes a link directing users to a page with more information.

Google says that strong email authentication helps users and email security systems identify and prevent spam, and gives users peace of mind about email content, creating a better email ecosystem for everyone .

Google is expected to roll out Gmail's new feature to all users later this week.
