Can Tho City leaders conduct a site inspection of the Can Tho City Oncology Hospital project.
Currently, Can Tho City is focusing on accelerating the implementation of key transportation projects such as the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project (phase 1); the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project; the upgrading and expansion project of National Highway 91 (section from Km0-Km7); and the Western Ring Road project... contributing to the synchronization of the road transport system and increasing regional and inter-regional connectivity. At the same time, Can Tho City has attracted many investors with registered capital projects totaling thousands of billions of VND in various sectors.
Notably, the Aeon Mall Can Tho project, located in Binh Nhut area, Long Hoa ward, Binh Thuy district, has a total investment capital of VND 5,400 billion and is being developed by Hoa Lam Can Tho Investment and Development Joint Stock Company. The project involves the investment, construction, management, operation, and development of a comprehensive shopping mall and related services, including food and beverage services, a children's play area, and the leasing of completed retail spaces, shelves, and sales areas. It also includes the leasing and subleasing of premises, warehouses, halls, and other facilities within the shopping mall. The project has a total construction floor area of approximately 195,073 m² (excluding the two basement levels). Phase 1 (Shopping Center 1) has a construction floor area of approximately 113,921 m², and is expected to complete all relevant administrative procedures, commence construction, and put the project into operation within 36 months from the date of issuance of the investment policy approval decision and investor approval (November 2024). Phase 2 (Shopping Center 2 and parking building) has a construction floor area of approximately 81,152 m², to be implemented within 10 years after the opening of Phase 1, depending on the economic situation of the locality and region. According to a representative of Hoa Lam Can Tho Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, the company has been carrying out procedures to prepare for the commencement of construction of the project before April 30, 2025.
In the energy sector, the O Mon III and IV Thermal Power Plant projects, part of the Block B - O Mon gas-electricity project chain, are invested in by Petrovietnam. The O Mon III Thermal Power Plant project has already completed its feasibility study and submitted it to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for appraisal. Simultaneously, Petrovietnam is closely coordinating with relevant agencies and the Japanese side to arrange funding for the project. For the O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant, the EPC contract for the main plant is currently undergoing the contractor selection process. According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Tuong, Director of the Electricity Project Management Board - Petrovietnam, during the process of receiving and implementing the handover of projects from the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), some difficulties and obstacles were encountered. However, Petrovietnam has made efforts to overcome them and has now completed the handover of land and assets on the land as guided by the departments and agencies of Can Tho City, and is urging the locality to complete the land procedures as soon as possible according to regulations. Along with new projects, Can Tho City is striving to restart the investment project to build the Can Tho City Oncology Hospital, a 500-bed facility with the Department of Health as the investor. The project has a total investment of over 1,727 billion VND (of which over 1,393 billion VND is ODA loan from the Government, the remainder is counterpart funding from the city), and construction began in 2017. During implementation, due to the impact of the pandemic and some objective reasons, the project's progress did not meet the set requirements. This resulted in delays in disbursement compared to the preferential loan agreement, which expired in July 2022 and was not extended, leading to a halt in construction. The City Department of Health is reviewing and finalizing the proposal to adjust the investment policy of the project based on feedback from relevant departments and agencies for submission to the competent authority for consideration and decision…
Key projects play a crucial role and serve as a driving force for development not only for Can Tho City but also for the entire Mekong Delta region, contributing to improving the quality of life for its people. Given this significance and the immense workload, the leaders of Can Tho City pay close attention to and provide strict guidance, regularly inspecting the projects to promptly address any difficulties and obstacles in their implementation. During a recent inspection of the progress of key projects in the city, Mr. Do Thanh Binh, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, requested relevant departments and agencies to actively coordinate with investors to resolve difficulties within their authority, so that the projects can be implemented as soon as possible.
