According to Neowin , several users of Google's cloud storage service have reported that their files have mysteriously disappeared over the past few days. Some users have posted about their problems with the service on the company's support forum.
Google is investigating the issue of missing files on Drive.
One of the affected users from South Korea stated: "Hello, my Drive files suddenly disappeared. Data from May 2023 until today is gone, and the folder structure reverted to the May state. Drive activity doesn't show any changes (only shows activity in May). No files were manually deleted, so there are no files in the Recycle Bin. I never synced or shared my files and drives with anyone; I use a local drive."
This person reported the issues to Google support. So far, several attempts to recover the files, including using a recovery program, have been unsuccessful. Similar reports have also been posted by several other Google Drive users.
So far, the issue appears to only affect Google Drive customers accessing the service via the desktop application. This does not seem to affect those using the Drive website or its mobile apps.
The latest update on this issue on support forums, reportedly from a Google team member, stated: "As of this morning, we know that the relevant project engineers are working to figure out the root cause before they can provide a fix. Based on feedback, do not make any changes to the root directory for Drive. Hopefully, we will have a solution this week."
