Google Play allows in-app NFT sales.

Google Play product director Joseph Mills emphasized that game developers must maintain transparency and adhere to guidelines. The new policy will allow developers to reimagine traditional games with user-owned content and "retain" users through unique NFT rewards, Mills said.

According to CoinTelegraph , developers must clearly state information about this feature in the game description. Additionally, game developers are prohibited from promoting or enticing users to earn money through gameplay or transactions, selling in-game loot boxes, or allowing players to gamble.

The regulations aim to ensure that new users of NFTs are not deceived into buying these assets by believing they can yield huge profits, a common tactic in the NFT market.

In July 2018, the tech giant banned cryptocurrency mining apps on Google Play.

Google Play says it is testing the new policy with a number of developers and expects to roll it out by the end of this year. Google Play is collaborating with leaders in the Web 3.0 gaming industry to establish new policies and work with app developers to understand new challenges and opportunities.

According to CoinDesk , Reddit's senior technical director Matt Williamson, one of the partners assisting Google with the policy update, said this will create a level playing field to foster user trust and responsible use of blockchain technology.

In contrast to Google, Apple maintains a cautious stance regarding the digital asset ecosystem. Users can only purchase NFTs through in-app purchases, as stipulated by the company. In October 2022, Apple stated that NFTs purchased outside the App Store must not offer any special benefits to players, otherwise the app will be banned. Additionally, NFTs sold through games on the app store must pay a 30% fee to Apple.
