Google is about to delete archived photo albums.

In an email sent to users, Google stated: "Some content found only in the Album Archive will be deleted starting July 19th." This content includes album thumbnails, comments, or likes; Hangouts data from the Album Archive; and wallpapers downloaded from Gmail themes prior to 2018.

Accessing the link provided by Google will display the old library, where a notable album is called "Photos from Hangouts." Google says this contains photos and videos shared by users on Hangouts, organized by conversation. Some albums contain many photos sent through the Google Chat app.

However, what's puzzling is that if you choose to delete the entire photo album directly here, Google says that copies of the photos and videos may still exist in Google Photos.

This move once again shows that the company is looking to clean up old apps that are no longer appealing to users. According to 9to5google , these are apps remaining from the Google+ social network project, which the company discontinued in April 2019.

Earlier on May 15th, Google announced the sale of its domain name business, Google Domains, to Squarespace for approximately $180 million. This service currently hosts over 10 million domain names for millions of users.

Google says Album Archive will no longer be accessible from July 19, 2023, and advises users to download a copy of their data beforehand via Takeout. If you've ever used Google Chat and Hangouts to make calls to friends, you should save photos from these albums before the search giant deletes them.
