The new feature, called "Automatic Password Change," will be rolled out by Google to Chrome in late 2025, after developers have had time to update their apps and websites to support it.

Google's Chrome password manager now has the ability to detect weak or compromised passwords. With this new feature, when users log in to supported websites, the search browser will automatically prompt them and provide an option to update their password.

According to a Google expert, "When Chrome detects that your password has been compromised during a login, it will immediately suggest a way to automatically patch the vulnerability."

On compatible websites, Chrome not only generates a new, stronger password but also automatically updates that information for the user.

This is seen as a significant step forward for Google, building on the solid foundation of its password manager, which already has the ability to generate strong passwords during registration and warn users about leaked login credentials in data breaches.

Besides the automatic password change feature, the search giant also announced several other improvements in password management. Chrome will also support importing and exporting password keys according to the FIDO standard, helping users avoid having to handle files when switching between browsers.

At the same time, Google will expand the Credential Manager API to allow developers to request authentication information from browsers, thereby enhancing the secure login experience.

Google has also expanded support for Passkey in Chrome to iOS, enabling secure synchronization and login across multiple platforms including Android, Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Linux, and iOS.

With these valuable improvements, Google Chrome once again affirms its ongoing efforts to provide a safer and more convenient web browsing experience for users worldwide.
