Currently, the province has nearly 54.700 hectares of maize, the average yield is more than 37 quintals/ha, an increase of nearly 2.200 ha and 4,9 quintals/ha compared to 2012. Although the province has issued and implemented many implementations. Central government's policy to support people to grow maize, but at present, corn products are mainly self-sufficient, self-sufficient, the output is only for food and for livestock. The value of the corn crop is not high, only 25-30 million VND/ha/crop (excluding production costs). On the other hand, the corn production area is small and uneven, so it is difficult to arrange large and concentrated commodity production, and apply mechanization and irrigation to production. In the period 2012 - 2022, in the province, there have been many models of converting from corn to other crops, bringing high incomes to farmers and forming areas for the production of high-value goods such as: corn to grow temperate fruit trees, citrus fruit trees, medicinal plants, flowers for tourism, plants for animal husbandry...
From the above fact, the professional sector has advised the Provincial People's Committee to develop a draft scheme on converting agricultural land for corn cultivation to other crops of higher economic value in the province with the following objectives: agricultural land use with the successful conversion of over 2.000 hectares of corn land to crops of higher economic value; increase income per unit area of agricultural land after conversion (increasing at least 20% compared to before conversion); maintaining over 52.000 ha of maize, applying technical advances to improve productivity and diversify corn products; increase intensive farming of 22.000 ha of corn to compensate for the output of converted areas... to meet people's needs and ensure food security, develop sustainable agriculture...
Standing Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee Hoang Gia Long concluded the meeting. |
Through the exchange and discussion of the delegates and the conclusion of the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Gia Long suggested the specialized agency to absorb the delegates' comments to complete the project. Along with that, the professional sector needs to deeply assess the advantages and limitations of corn to ensure the feasibility of the project, change production thinking, step by step build links, close cooperation and sustainability. between farmers and businesses; advise the Provincial People's Committee to organize meetings and seminars to solicit opinions, mobilize the participation of Party committees, local authorities, managers, scientists, experts and people in selecting right, hit valuable trees and children to replace the inefficient corn-growing area; create consensus in perception and unity in action.
