Ha Giang: Awarding Certificates of Merit to 2 forest rangers who died while on duty

NDO - On May 16, the Ha Giang Provincial Forest Protection Department held a ceremony to announce and award the Certificate of Merit to two forest rangers who died while on duty.

At the ceremony, the leaders of the Department of Home Affairs of Ha Giang province announced Decision No. 811, dated April 24, 2025 of the Prime Minister on granting Certificates of Merit to 90 martyrs of the Ministry of National Defense and the provinces and cities: Ha Giang, Ha Tinh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Tri, Son La.

Among them, there are martyr Truong Thi Lan, Forest Ranger, Phong Quang-Tay Con Linh Special-Use Forest Ranger Department and martyr Tran Van Khien, Forest Ranger, Vi Xuyen District Forest Ranger Department, who died on April 26, 2024.

More than a year ago, on the morning of April 26, 2024, at the 2,000 peak, in the Tay Con Linh mountain range, the area bordering the communes of Phuong Tien, Xin Chai, Lao Chai, in Vi Xuyen district, a special-use forest fire broke out.

As soon as the fire was identified, forest rangers, military , police and local people were present at the scene to coordinate in extinguishing the forest fire. Comrades Truong Thi Lan and Tran Van Khien, along with their colleagues and local people, were determined to protect the forest.

At 10 o'clock the same day, a large fire engulfed the place where comrades Truong Thi Lan and Tran Van Khien were performing their duties, causing the two comrades to die.

Speaking at the ceremony, Head of the Ha Giang Provincial Forest Protection Department Dao Duy Tuan expressed his deep gratitude, affirming that the contributions and sacrifices of comrades Truong Thi Lan and Tran Van Khien have added color to the glorious history of the homeland and the forestry sector.
