Ha Thi Linh's opponent in the qualifying round was Feofaaki Epenisa (Tonga), ranked 262nd in the world in the 57kg weight class. At this year's Olympics, Epenisa was promoted to the 60kg weight class. Throughout the rounds, the Vietnamese boxer demonstrated overwhelming superiority, dominating her opponent with powerful punches. Ultimately, Ha Thi Linh won 5-0 against Feofaaki Epenisa with scores of 30/26, 30/26, 30/27, 30/27, and 30/25, thus advancing to the round of 16. Commenting on Ha Thi Linh's debut at the world's largest sporting event, Hoang Quoc Vinh, Head of High-Performance Sports Department 1 - Department of Physical Education and Sports, said that Ha Thi Linh performed well in today's match. She remained calm, executed her tactics correctly, maintained good distance, distributed her attacks very effectively, and especially combined two or three consecutive blows. In the first half of the first round, she was still probing her opponent, and after figuring out her opponent's strategy, Linh proactively balanced her offense and defense, leading to an overwhelming victory. In the second round, Linh maintained her pace and attacked effectively, continuing her winning streak. In the third round, Feofaaki Epenisa was somewhat hasty in trying to score points, but Ha Thi Linh controlled the distance and closed in, rendering Feofaaki Epenisa's attacks ineffective. In the round of 16 of the women's 60kg weight class, Ha Thi Linh will face a major challenge when she encounters the seeded boxer Yang Wenlu (China, world number 4). This 33-year-old female athlete previously defeated Ha Thi Linh in the round of 16 at the 2023 Asian Games and subsequently won the Gold Medal. In 2023, Yang Wenlu also won a Bronze Medal at the Women's World Boxing Championships. Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh believes that the fundamental issue in the upcoming match is for Ha Thi Linh to demonstrate her composure, calmness, and to showcase her strength and technique as she did in today's match. The fight between Ha Thi Linh and Yang Wenlu will take place at 4 PM on July 29th.
