Both top-scoring students in the entrance exam at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology chose Computer Science as their major.
This year, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam National University, has two top-scoring entrance exam candidates. Among them, Pham Khanh Duy, a former student of Ben Tre Specialized High School in Ben Tre province, achieved the highest score in the combined admission method with 94.86/100 points.
This major has a cutoff score of 79.84 points. This score is a combination of several factors, including: aptitude test results (75%), high school graduation exam scores (20%), academic transcript scores (5%), and academic awards, social activities, and achievements in arts and sports.
Duy scored 1,067/1,200 on the aptitude test, 29.35 on the high school graduation exam in the A00 subject combination (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), and 89.9/90 on his academic transcript.
Meanwhile, Tran Duc Minh Hieu, a former student of Nguyen Huu Cau High School in Ho Chi Minh City, topped the aptitude test with 1,091 points. The exam had over 90,000 candidates, but only 20 achieved scores higher than Duy and Hieu.

Khanh Duy and Minh Hieu both chose Computer Science as their major. Coming from a background in specialized Mathematics, Khanh Duy said that choosing Computer Science was not only due to current trends but also aligned with his passion for mathematics since high school.
Meanwhile, Minh Hieu had been interested in and taught himself about programming since the 8th grade, so he didn't hesitate much when making the decision.
"Every summer, I turn on YouTube to watch tutorials on microchip programming and application development. My failures in a few competitions made me determined to learn more about programming," Minh Hieu expressed.
Besides the two top scorers, the female student with the highest admission score is Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi, a former student of Ben Tre Specialized High School (91.4 points), who also chose to pursue Computer Science.
Meanwhile, the runner-up of the school was Nguyen Tien Anh (94.09 points), a former student of Nguyen Thuong Hien High School, Ho Chi Minh City, who dropped out of Computer Science at the last minute. The male student switched to Electrical and Electronics Engineering because he believed it was the foundation for technological advancements, in parallel with the development of Information Technology.
"The engineering field has proven stable over the past decades and is also developing, but unfortunately, it receives little attention," Tien Anh assessed.
The two top-scoring students in the entrance exam were awarded scholarships of 35 million VND, while the second-highest scoring student and the outstanding female student received scholarships of 20 million VND each from the Ho Chi Minh City National University Development Fund.
