Find opportunities at private schools.
In mid-June, shortly after the results of the 10th grade entrance exam were announced, Mr. Phan Thai from Hung Nguyen commune took his child to complete the enrollment procedures at Nguyen Truong To High School. Previously, in the entrance exam for Thai Lao High School, his child only scored slightly over 15 points, considerably lower than the school's cutoff score. Despite not achieving their initial goal, the family decided to let their child continue their high school education at a private school in Vinh to ensure their child's studies were settled.
“The teachers at Nguyen Truong To High School have provided quite thorough advice to our family regarding the curriculum, costs, and learning conditions. I hope my child will be admitted to the school. However, this year the number of applications is quite high while the number of places is limited, so the family is still very worried,” Mr. Thai shared.

According to the approved plan, this year, Nguyen Truong To High School – the largest private high school in Nghe An province – has been allocated 585 enrollment slots. Of these, 337 students have already registered for admission based on their academic records as their first choice. More than two weeks after the Department of Education and Training announced the 10th-grade exam results, the school has received over 200 more applications, bringing the total number of applications to nearly the allocated quota.
According to the school's admissions officer, the school has not yet finalized the official list of admitted students and has not yet determined the admission cutoff scores.
For the remaining quotas, the selection process will be based on the results of the 10th grade entrance exam or academic performance at the lower secondary level as prescribed, and must be approved by the Department of Education and Training before official announcement.
In principle, students who register for their first choice have a higher chance of being admitted. However, some students simultaneously register for other schools and may change their choice after knowing the admission results. Therefore, the school must wait to review and compare the actual number of enrolled students before finalizing the list.
Compared to previous years, the school's admissions process has been more favorable, with a significant increase in the number of applications and an improvement in the quality of incoming students. The school does not limit the number of applications, allowing all students who wish to study to participate in the admissions process according to regulations.

For the 2026-2027 10th grade entrance exam, Nghe An province has 49,372 registered candidates. Meanwhile, the enrollment quota for public schools is 37,740 students, equivalent to an acceptance rate of approximately 76.44%.
In the Vinh area alone, there are approximately 8,000 ninth-grade students, but the enrollment quota for public and specialized schools is only over 4,000. The remaining more than 2,000 places are allocated to private schools, high-quality schools, and vocational training centers.
This also shows that securing a place at a quality private school is no longer an easy task these days.
At Hermann Gmeiner High School, this year the school has been allocated 720 enrollment slots. Of these, 480 students registered for their first choice and were selected based on their academic records. In addition, the school also received thousands of applications for second and third choices.
After excluding students already admitted to other schools, the number of applications competing for the remaining more than 300 spots is still very large. It is expected that the cut-off score for admission this year will be higher than in previous years and will be determined by selecting candidates from highest to lowest scores until all spots are filled.
Choose the right school, according to your abilities.
This year's enrollment season, the story of teacher Lo Van Nhat - a Literature teacher at the Vinh Vocational Training and Continuing Education Center - has become a compelling example for many students and parents who are still hesitant about choosing vocational training or continuing education at centers.

Six years ago, despite having been accepted into a high school, due to personal circumstances and reasons, Mr. Nhat moved from the former Con Cuong district to study at the Vinh Vocational Training and Continuing Education Center.
During his three years of study here, although he enrolled in Industrial Electrical Engineering, driven by his desire to attend university, he persevered and successfully passed the entrance exam for the Literature and Language Education program at Vinh University. Graduating with honors, he was rehired by the Center as a teacher.
During his teaching, Mr. Nhat often shared his own story with his students to encourage them not to limit their opportunities because they were hesitant to study in the continuing education system.
According to the teacher, the learning environment is only one part; the most important thing is still the awareness, effort, and determination of each student.

To date, the Vinh Vocational Training and Continuing Education Center has received dozens of applications for grade 10. The enrollment process will continue until early September or until the planned 360 places are filled.
According to Mr. Tran Xuan Sum, Deputy Director of the Vinh Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center, in recent years, the unit has focused on developing a dual training model, helping students complete both the high school curriculum and receive vocational training.
Upon graduation, students receive both a high school diploma and a vocational certificate, giving them an advantage when entering the labor market or continuing their education at higher levels.
As a public institution, students studying at the Center benefit from all tuition fee exemptions and reductions, as well as financial support for learning expenses, as stipulated by the State. In addition, the Center collaborates with many vocational education institutions to provide students with free vocational training programs that are flexible and tailored to practical needs and individual career aspirations.

According to the center's leadership, because the quality of incoming students in the continuing education system is often uneven, the unit conducts competency assessments at the beginning of the school year to develop teaching plans suitable for each group of students, thereby improving educational effectiveness and the percentage of students achieving good results in exams.
At the Anh Son Vocational Training and Continuing Education Center, the number of applications has already exceeded the assigned target. According to the plan, the center was supposed to enroll 5 classes with 225 students this year. However, before the enrollment season, 221 students had already registered for their first choice and over 100 students had registered for their second choice.
Mr. Bui Duc Tuan, Director of the Center, said that in recent years, more and more parents have proactively chosen the continuing education system for their children: “Currently, there are no private schools in Anh Son commune, so the enrollment source is relatively stable. However, the more important reason is that students receive free vocational training and benefit from many government support policies. Currently, students from disadvantaged areas and ethnic minorities also receive boarding support with a fairly high level of assistance, in some cases up to 14 million VND per school year.”
Due to the overwhelming number of applications, this year, the Anh Son Vocational Training and Continuing Education Center will only accept approximately 80% of its quota from first-choice applications. The remaining slots will be reserved to attract students with good academic performance who were not fortunate enough to get into public schools. This approach helps the Center improve the quality of its incoming students; at the same time, it provides opportunities for capable students to choose a model that combines academic studies with vocational training.

Throughout the province, according to the approved enrollment plan, this year, vocational training and continuing education centers have been allocated more than 5,600 places across 126 classes.
With the advantage of combining academic studies and vocational training, this model is becoming a suitable option for many students after lower secondary school, especially those who did not get admitted to public high schools.
This approach is also consistent with the policy of educational streaming and career guidance, helping students access careers early, develop their personal abilities, and reduce pressure on the public high school system.
