Two 'blockbuster' games remain safe after EA's massive layoffs.

According to Gaming Bolt , although EA is gradually distancing itself from future licensed IP development, it has confirmed that work is still underway on upcoming single-player Marvel games.

Recently, game developer EA announced a mass layoff, with an expected reduction of approximately 670 employees, equivalent to about 5% of its total workforce. The company stated that, as part of a restructuring process, they are seeking to move away from developing games based on licensed IPs, but with several of EA's upcoming titles falling into this category, this has raised questions about their status.

However, at least two of them have been confirmed as safe. In a statement to GamesIndustry, an EA representative confirmed that their two upcoming Marvel games based on Iron Man and Black Panther are still in development.

Iron Man is being developed at Motive Studio, the team behind the 2023 Dead Space remake, as a single-player, third-person action-adventure game. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the game is currently in pre-production, and job postings suggest it may feature an open -world setting.

Meanwhile, Black Panther is being developed by Cliffhanger Games, a newly established studio, and will be a single-player, open-world, third-person action-adventure game.

Previous reports indicated that EA's partnership with Marvel would also bring a third game, although the identity of this game remains a mystery. However, not all of EA's upcoming titles based on licensed IPs have materialized. Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars first-person shooter was canceled. Meanwhile, the Battlefield studio, Ridgeline Games, has closed down.
