According to Anadolu news agency, the Hamas movement announced that it has launched a broad consultation process among its leadership and organizations to select a new leader to replace Ismail Haniyeh, who was recently assassinated in Iran.
According to Hamas, the movement's executive groups are continuing their work and will announce the results of the consultations when the process is complete. Hamas leader Haniyeh was killed in an airstrike in Tehran on the morning of July 31, after attending the inauguration of Iran's new President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Several prominent figures are considered potential new leaders of the Hamas Islamic movement, including Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader in Gaza, and Khaled Meshal, a former Hamas political leader.
Currently, ceasefire negotiations in Cairo, Egypt, are stalled in Gaza. Israel claims that the Hamas movement is hindering progress in the talks.
Meanwhile, Egyptian security agencies said that negotiations on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip had stalled following the assassination of Haniyeh. Haniyeh played a key role in the ceasefire talks, actively communicating with Egyptian and Qatari mediators.
