A series of key projects have been launched.

In recent years, many key national and provincial transportation projects have been implemented in the province. Among them, three expressways (Nha Trang - Cam Lam, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao, Van Phong - Nha Trang) have been completed and put into use, contributing to expanding the development space for the locality. The Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot Expressway project commenced on June 18, 2023, and is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2026. The completion and commissioning of the North-South expressway projects are of paramount importance in connecting transportation and creating momentum for the socio -economic development of the province and the region.

Besides expressway projects, the province is currently implementing many key transportation infrastructure projects such as: the coastal road connecting Van Ninh and Ninh Hoa; the inter-regional road connecting Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh; the road connecting the North-South expressway with National Highway 1 and Ca Na General Seaport; the road connecting Anh Dung commune to Ta Nang intersection (Lam Dong province); upgrading and expanding National Highway 26B; the inter-regional road in Dien Khanh district... In addition, there are 4 projects currently under preparation for investment, including: the Nha Trang - Da Lat expressway; the key road connecting the North-South expressway and Thanh Son Airport to Ninh Chu National Tourist Area; the inter-regional road connecting Ca Na General Seaport to the southern Central Highlands provinces; and the coastal road connecting Cam Ranh to southern Khanh Hoa.

Creating momentum for economic development

Developing a comprehensive and modern infrastructure system is identified as one of the three strategic breakthroughs in economic development, with transportation infrastructure playing a "backbone" role, creating a foundation for growth, regional connectivity, and enhancing national competitiveness.

Over the years, the province's transportation infrastructure has received significant investment to help realize its goal of becoming a centrally-governed city. Key projects include completing the expressway, expanding inter-regional connecting roads, and developing urban transportation. Experts believe that accelerating transportation infrastructure projects plays a strategic breakthrough role, acting as a direct springboard to unlock resources, reduce logistics costs, expand development space, and attract investment, thereby creating a strong impetus for sustainable economic growth.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, the province has 12 key transportation projects currently under construction by provincial project management boards with a total investment of approximately 16,833 billion VND, expected to be put into use in 2026 and 2027. The Provincial People's Council has also approved Resolution No. 35 on the proposed public investment plan for the period 2026-2030. Accordingly, the province plans to invest in 73 transportation projects with a total investment of approximately 56,889 billion VND. In addition, the province is coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies to invest in upgrading Cam Ranh International Airport and developing Thanh Son Airport into a dual-use airport. Simultaneously, provincial project management boards are making efforts to implement land clearance and build resettlement areas to serve the North-South high-speed railway project passing through the province. These key transportation infrastructure projects are seen as the "key" for Khanh Hoa to enter a new era with the goal of double-digit growth.

According to Mr. Le Huyen, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the province is currently studying the implementation of several additional projects, including: constructing a tunnel through Cu Hin mountain; a road connecting the Po Nagar Tower - Am Chua cultural heritage site; expanding National Highway 27C from the Vo Nguyen Giap intersection to the North-South expressway interchange; and inter-communal roads along the Nai Lagoon through Ninh Chu, Ninh Hai, and Xuan Hai districts. In the context of creating new development opportunities, large-scale transportation infrastructure investment helps expand development space and becomes an important driving force for economic growth and enhanced competitiveness. The province's viewpoint is to limit investment in "piecemeal" projects and focus on strategic infrastructure projects that bring sustainable economic benefits.
