According to global cybersecurity company NordVPN, the number of fake Amazon websites in October 2025 increased by 232% compared to September, while the number of fraudulent websites impersonating eBay increased by as much as 525%.
Korean experts say that as the year-end shopping season approaches and Black Friday – the global shopping event marking the start of the year-end shopping season with massive discounts at many stores and e-commerce sites – the number of fake shopping websites has increased significantly worldwide , including in South Korea – one of the world's most vibrant online shopping markets – requiring users to be cautious.
According to NordVPN, in addition to fake websites, there are also many sophisticated email attacks and malicious link distributions targeting sensitive consumer areas such as ordering, delivery, and refunds. A NordVPN privacy awareness survey found that approximately 68% of consumers do not know how to identify fraudulent websites.
In South Korea, people are particularly vulnerable to phishing attacks, with 81% of respondents not knowing how to identify fraudulent websites. Cybersecurity experts say that in South Korea, incidents of creating phishing websites by impersonating well-known brands such as Coupang, Hyundai Card, and CJ Logistics are recurring, in which users are asked to enter personal information or install malware.
NordVPN advises people to always access the official website directly, check for "https://" and the padlock icon in the address bar, and access the official website instead of links in emails.
