eBay scam sites have increased by 525%
According to global cybersecurity company NordVPN, the number of fake Amazon websites increased by 232% in October 2025 compared to September, while fraudulent websites impersonating eBay increased by 525%.
As the year-end shopping season approaches and Black Friday - a global shopping event that marks the start of the year-end shopping season with huge discounts at many stores and e-commerce sites - the number of fake shopping websites has increased significantly worldwide , including in South Korea - one of the world's most vibrant online shopping markets, requiring users to be cautious, Korean experts said.
According to NordVPN, in addition to fake websites, there are also many sophisticated email attacks and malicious link distributions targeting sensitive consumer areas such as ordering, shipping, and refunds. A NordVPN privacy awareness survey found that about 68% of consumers do not know how to identify fraudulent websites.
In South Korea, people are particularly vulnerable to phishing attacks, with 81% of respondents not knowing how to identify fraudulent websites. Cybersecurity experts say that there have been recurring incidents in South Korea of scam websites impersonating well-known brands such as Coupang, Hyundai Card and CJ Logistics, in which users are asked to enter personal information or install malware.
NordVPN recommends that people always go directly to the official website, check for “https://” and the lock icon in the address bar, and visit the official website instead of a link in an email.
